The city of Rochester, New York, was rocked with lawlessness Friday following the recent release of police body-cam footage of the arrest of Daniel Prude, a black man who died of asphyxiation on March 30.

Prude died a week after being arrested, as officers placed a “spit bag” over his head while taking him into custody to prevent the possible infection of coronavirus from being spit on, and pressed his head into the roadway for several minutes while awaiting the arrival of paramedics.

Released by the family, the body cam footage is seen below — *Caution: Disturbing Content:

Naked and handcuffed, Prude was reportedly on PCP at the time.

The medical examiner attributed his death to “complications of asphyxia in the setting of physical restraint,” as well as “excited delirium” and PCP intoxication, according to CBS News.

Friday marked the third consecutive night that Black Lives Matter protesters, many in traditional black bloc attire associated with the violent Antifa movement, turned hostile in their interactions with Rochester police.

Rioters reportedly set fires, vandalized property and threw objects at police officers.

At one point, Black Lives Matter activists attacked diners at a restaurant as they shut down the establishment.

Police responded to the lawlessness by firing pepper balls at the rioters, as reported by the Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.

Joe Prude, the deceased man’s brother, told reporters Wednesday he called the police “for my brother to get help, not for my brother to get lynched.”

According to a family attorney, Daniel was experiencing “an acute, manic, psychotic episode.”

The brother accused police of murdering his sibling, according to WROC.

“When I say get lynched, that was full-fledged, murder, cold-blooded — nothing other than cold-blooded murder,” the brother stated. “The man is defenseless, naked on the ground, cuffed up already. I mean come on, how many brothers got to die for society to understand that this needs to stop?”

Prude was on hand Friday evening and addressed the gathered crowd.

“This is an unstoppable moment right now,” he said. “It’s time to get rid of them sons of b*tches.”

The mob is calling for the resignations of Mayor Lovely Warren and Chief La’Ron Singletary, who are both black, and are calling for police reform in the city, the paper reported.

The mayor suspended seven police officers involved in Prude’s arrest, pending an investigation into the case.

Michael Mazzeo, who heads up the Rochester Police Department’s union, told the Democrat and Chronicle the video was not a complete or accurate portrayal of what occurred, saying there is “a substantial amount of evidence” supporting the actions taken by the officers involved.

The union chief also said the officers followed protocol.

“An officer doesn’t have the ability to go off-script,” Mazzeo said. “They have to follow protocol and do what they are trained to do.”

Despite the city being led by a black mayor and police chief, Warren attributed the outcome to racism, according to USA Today.

“We cannot continue to fail black lives this way,” she said Thursday during a news conference. “We can’t improve our city or improve our nation until we face the reality, the undeniable truth: racism is alive and well in every system in America.”

“The only way we are going to change institutional and structural and systematic racism in our city is to face it head on,” she added.

The mayor also threw the police chief under the bus for not fully informing her of the incident, saying that until she saw the video she was under the impression that Prude had died of a drug overdose while in police custody.

“I have addressed with Police Chief La’Ron Singletary how deeply disappointed I am in him personally and professionally for failing to fully and accurately inform me about what occurred to Mr. Prude,” Warren told reporters.
