Man accused of stabbing 2 people to death arrested one week prior at Portland protest

The reason President Donald Trump seeks to defund Democrat-controlled cities such as Portland, Seattle, and New York City may very well be because of cases like THIS.

In early June, Portland authorities arrested a homeless man who’d been “interfering with a peace officer” during a government-sanctioned Black Lives Matter riot.

But instead of locking up the man, Phillip Lawrence Nelson, 38, prosecutors dismissed the charges, according to KOIN.com.

Two days later on June 16th, Nelson allegedly murdered Cassy Leaton, 22, and Najaf “Nate” Hobbs, 39, over some sort of property feud, according to local station KOIN.

“Leaton and Hobbs’ roommate told police that they were originally renting the unit in a fourplex from Nelson, who claimed to be the owner of the building. … When the three roommates found out Nelson was actually just squatting there, they changed the locks to their unit, angering Nelson,” the station reported.

Surveillance footage from the fourplex showed Hobbs and Leaton going into the building’s basement on the 16th and never returning, though not for a lack of effort.

“[S]urveillance video captured Leaton running out of the basement, stumbling and shouting for help before falling down. Bystanders rushed to her aid, but she did not survive. … A police officer said he found Hobbs’ body on the stairs, with a trail of blood leading to the basement,” KOIN reported.

Both had been stabbed to death. Surveillance footage also showed Nelson sneaking out through the building’s back door as bystanders were trying to save Leton.

Leaton and Hobbs’ murder isn’t a one-off affair either. It’s part of a pattern that’s emerged because of the willful decision by Democrat officials across the country to play nice with rioters and other extremists rather than hold them accountable.

The same thing happened with Michael Reinoehl, the now-deceased extremist suspected of ruthlessly murdering Trump supporter Jay Danielson.

In early July, Reinoehl was reportedly arrested for “possessing a loaded gun in a public place, resisting arrest, and interfering with police,” but was promptly released by prosecutors. Weeks later in late August, he killed Danielson.

Now fast-forward to this past weekend, when authorities in Washington, D.C., arrested an extremist who’d purposefully driven into a crowd of people.

“Jeremy Vajko, 27, was arrested on Saturday night during violent clashes between police and protesters. … The Metropolitan Police Department incident report into his arrest claims he was driving recklessly near the Hay Adams hotel and drove ‘into a crowd of over one hundred individuals,'” the Daily Mail reported this week.

Yet the next day, prosecutors not only released him but did so without filing any charges.

There’s a chance this lunatic might go on to kill people like Nelson and Reinoehl, but none of the left-wing officials with power seem to care. Why? Some suspect it’s because of money.

“District attorneys and current candidates whose campaigns benefited from the work of left-wing organizations – including ones backed by liberal billionaire George Soros – are now pushing for new practices that could see sharp reductions in prosecutions and incarcerations,” Fox News reported in late July.

“Soros, through the Justice & Public Safety PAC and other groups, has been spending millions of dollars on prosecutorial races in recent years, with a number of beneficiaries making headlines since their elections.”

Others think that perhaps these prosecutors agree ideologically with the Black Lives Matter and Antifa extremists who’ve been wreaking havoc across the nation.

Now enter the president, who said bluntly in a memorandum issued Wednesday that he’s sick of this crap and plans to fight back by defunding every Democrat-controlled city that’s displayed tolerance toward left-wing extremists.

“My Administration will not allow Federal tax dollars to fund cities that allow themselves to deteriorate into lawless zones,” he said.

“To ensure that Federal funds are neither unduly wasted nor spent in a manner that directly violates our Government’s promise to protect life, liberty, and property, it is imperative that the Federal Government review the use of Federal funds by jurisdictions that permit anarchy, violence, and destruction in America’s cities.”

“It is also critical to ensure that Federal grants are used effectively, to safeguard taxpayer dollars entrusted to the Federal Government for the benefit of the American people.”

His statement provoked caustic backlash from Democrat officials. Yet not a single one of these officials has ever expressed the same grade of anger about the murders of Leaton, Hobbs and Danielson …
