It pays to be black — fake black, that is.
Meet George Washington University professor Jessica A. Krug, a standard white person who it appears has been pretending to be black all her adult life for the benefits, some of them financial, just like her predecessors Shaun King and Rachel Dolezal.
In a stunning blog post published in Medium on Thursday, the professor of African and Latin American studies outed herself as a self-identified “culture leech.”
Weird story of the day: Jessica Krug, a white woman from Kansas, has been pretending to be Black for her entire professional career, and now she’s apologizing for it:
“I am not a culture vulture. I am a culture leech.”https://t.co/p2rBC30Tm8 pic.twitter.com/8PZCfA2YGA

“To an escalating degree over my adult life, I have eschewed my lived experience as a white Jewish child in suburban Kansas City under various assumed identities within a Blackness that I had no right to claim: first North African Blackness, then US rooted Blackness, then Caribbean rooted Bronx Blackness,” she wrote.
“I have not only claimed these identities as my own when I had absolutely no right to do so — when doing so is the very epitome of violence, of thievery and appropriation, of the myriad ways in which non-Black people continue to use and abuse Black identities and cultures — but I have formed intimate relationships with loving, compassionate people who have trusted and cared for me when I have deserved neither trust nor caring.”
And she’s benefited financially from this lie — bigly.
“Jessica A Krug took financial support from cultural institutions such as the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture for a book she wrote about fugitive resistance to the transatlantic slave trade,” The Guardian has confirmed.
She also has a 2018 book, “Fugitive Modernities,” which reportedly contains this blurb in the acknowledgments:
“My ancestors, unknown, unnamed, who bled life into a future they had no reason to believe could or should exist. My brother, the fastest, the smartest, the most charming of us all. Those whose names I cannot say for their own safety, whether in my barrio, in Angola, or in Brazil.”
In her blog post, Krug attributed her shady behavior to “unaddressed mental health demons.”
“Mental health issues likely explain why I assumed a false identity initially, as a youth, and why I continued and developed it for so long; the mental health professionals from whom I have been so belatedly seeking help assure me that this is a common response to some of the severe trauma that marked my early childhood and teen years,” she wrote.
To be clear, grown white people pretending to be something they’re not isn’t “a common response” to anything …
Despite the excuse, she did ultimately kind of own up to her insanity.
“But mental health issues can never, will never, neither explain nor justify, neither condone nor excuse, that, in spite of knowing and regularly critiquing any and every non-Black person who appropriates from Black people, my false identity was crafted entirely from the fabric of Black lives,” she wrote.
“That I claimed belonging with living people and ancestors to whom and for whom my being is always a threat at best and a death sentence at worst. I am not a culture vulture. I am a culture leech.”
She added, “I should absolutely be cancelled. No. I don’t write in passive voice, ever, because I believe we must name power. So. You should absolutely cancel me, and I absolutely cancel myself.”
However, her apology did nothing to quell the rising anger in the black community, which over the past five years has witnessed multiple “black people” be outed as frauds.
Look:
I am VERY TIRED of white people blaming mental illness as to why they did something racist. As someone who recently had to put their spouse in a mental health facility, MENTAL ILLNESS DOES NOT CAUSE OR HEIGHTEN RACISM. STOP SHIFTING BLAME JESSICA KRUG.

When Jessica Krug gets her book deal and is on the talk show circuit, remember this tweet. White women continually harm our communities and are rewarded for their efforts.

She wrote that whole article and included LITERALLY ZERO plans to repair the harm she caused – so what was the purpose of the article? Attention & access – just like her pretending to a Black Woman was.

Rachel Dolezal ran so #JessicaKrug could fly. 2020 isn’t letting up.
White women pretending to be Black is incredibly violent and invasive and proves the point we often make about whiteness and white women: violent actors of anti-blackness and patriarchy.

This is why so many Black people don’t trust white people, especially white women.
This is angering.
Do you know how many sacred spaces #JessicaKrug invaded?
Do you know how many times she could have been an accomplice instead of pretending to be us?
Angering.

Also the audacity she had to say “I cancel myself.” That is the epitome of white privilege, to control the terms by which you enter and exit any space. After faking blackness for years all of a sudden she doesn’t want to get dragged like a Black person. #JessicaKrug

I wonder just how many of her opportunities in academia and publishing were denied to actual women of color. @GWtweets what are you and Jessica Krug going to do to begin to rectify this? https://t.co/h7H7aPcSop

To be fair, her loudest critics appear to be left-wingers, and according to left-wing orthodoxy, it’s perfectly fine for a 300-pound bearded man to pretend to be a woman. And so what exactly makes it wrong for a white woman to pretend to be black?
There is one small difference, though. Besides just pretending to be something she’s not, Krug has also had a tendency to sanctimoniously lecture her fellow white people.
Case in point: The video below purports to show this same woman lecturing her fellow whites at an online New York City Council hearing about a bunch of random stuff, including “gentrification,” the police, etc.
Watch:
“I also want to call out all these white New Yorkers who waited four hours with us to be able to speak and that did not yield their time to black and brown indigenous New Yorkers,” she said at one point in the spiel.
Yet as demonstrated by the video, she, a white woman, didn’t yield her time to her black and brown peers. Wasup with that!?
According to reports, George Washington University is currently looking into this scandal. It’s unclear if Krug will lose her position there.
It’s also unclear, as noted by the YouTuber below, how in the world anyone ever mistook Krug for a black woman given that “SHE DOESN’T LOOK BLACK AT ALL!”
No kidding!
