‘Enron-level scandal’: CDC reports just 6% of COVID-19 deaths occurred in people without comorbidities

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has quietly published information indicating that just 6 percent of victims who died from COVID-19 had no other co-morbidities, highly suggesting the disease is far less lethal to healthy people.

And if that’s the case, then the total U.S. coronavirus death count is likely way overblown, according to investigative reporter Jordan Schachtel, who uncovered the information and posted it online.

“The chatter circulating social media is accurate: CDC has reported that only 6% of COVID-19 deaths in the United States occurred in people w/out any comorbidities. Remember, the real # is significantly lower, given US standard for recording COVID deaths,” Schachtel wrote in a Twitter thread with a link to the health agency’s page containing the information, as well as a screenshot.

“Table 3 shows the types of health conditions and contributing causes mentioned in conjunction with deaths involving coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19),” the CDC web page says.

“For 6% of the deaths, COVID-19 was the only cause mentioned. For deaths with conditions or causes in addition to COVID-19, on average, there were 2.6 additional conditions or causes per death,” it adds.

“We already know that thousands of people in the US who died of completely unrelated circumstances have been listed as COVID deaths. If they had no preconditions, they could be listed in this 6%,” Schachtel continued. Conclusion: If you’re healthy & in shape, COVID-19 is not at all a threat to you.

“There is no doubt we are wildly over counting COVID deaths. Something more accurate would be closer to Germany’s standard. By that standard, we’d have around 30k COVID deaths, akin to a mild-medium flu season,” he added.

A social media user named Brooke Knight posted additional information on death rates and said that medical billers for hospitals have “known about this the whole time.”

On her Facebook page, she called for an “audit” of Medicare and Medicaid billing:

We need an immediate AUDIT of our Medicare and Medicaid billing of the COVID deaths. Here’s why:

As of 8/8/2020 the CDC reports there are  149,192 Deaths, Week ending 2/1/2020 to 8/8/2020. Deaths with confirmed or PRESUMED COVID-19, coded to ICD–10 code U07.1

PRESUMED.

If you go onto the CDC website, go to Table 3 under Comorbidities / Cause of Death. Look at the LEFT COLUMN, which will detail the CONDITIONS they had when they died.  The number of COVID Deaths WITH Comorbidities is 145,378.

That means, only 3,814 people died of COVID ALONE, with ZERO other factors.  THAT IS IT as reported by the CDC.

In another Twitter post, Knight called the alleged discrepancies an “Enron-level scandal,” referring to the Houston-based energy company that went bankrupt in 2001 after it was revealed the founders hid billions in debt via accounting fraud.

“Medical billing contracts receive 5% for every bill that is issued by the provider. Therefore there’s zero incentive for them to even speak out because Covid tacks on a significant pricing increase for them. But they’ve known about it. This is an Enron-level scandal,” she wrote.

Former New York Times reporter Alex Berenson, who has been tracking the COVID-19 pandemic, said there could be another way to look at the CDC data.

A lot of people are jumping on the @cdcgov statement just 6% of US #Covid deaths list #Covid alone as the cause. But to use that figure to claim “COVID ONLY KILLED 9,000 AMERICANS” is wrong. Other causes include conditions like pneumonia, which can clearly be Covid-related,” he wrote on Twitter.

A better way to use the data may be to TAKE OUT causes clearly unrelated to #sarscov2. I’d include Alzheimer’s, sepsis, dementia, cancer, and unintentional injury. (Let’s be conservative and leave off kidney failure, diabetes, obesity, and strokes.),” he added.

“The other advantage of leaving off those conditions is that there is significant overlap in, say, diabetes and obesity (and the CDC reports the average COVID death certificate included 2.6 other conditions). That’s less likely for the conditions I included,” he continued.

So, okay, the five conditions on my list were on about 50,000 certificates (assuming no double counting). The accidental deaths and poisonings alone were 5,000. Those deaths – at a minimum – are much more likely to fall in the WITH rather than FROM #Covid category,” Berenson wrote.

As of this writing, the ‘official’ COVID-19 death toll has surpassed 183,000 out of about 5.9 million cases.
