An engineer at a federally-funded research laboratory has sparked a “civil war” in an effort to expose the left’s ideological training of employees.
Filmmaker and policy researcher Christopher Rufo followed up on his previous reporting on controversial policies and training at Sandia National Laboratories, which designs America’s nuclear weapons, with a new Twitter thread detailing the latest development involving “dissident electrical engineer” Casey Peterson.

Earlier this month, Rufo shared screenshots of leaked documents from a three-day “race-segregated, taxpayer-funded session” hosted by the lab last year as a reeducation camp of sorts. The mandatory training paid for by American taxpayers was called “White Men’s Caucus on Eliminating Racism, Sexism, and Homophobia in Organizations.”
On Thursday, Rufo took to Twitter to share the story of Peterson who was “hoping to spark a rebellion against Sandia executives” when he emailed the lab’s 16,000 employees “denouncing critical race theory” in the company.
A healthy development at @SandiaLabs—#resistance to the ascendant woke tyranny infecting our institutions, from the federal government on down to the city council (and in nearly every Fortune 500).@realchrisrufo is the leading journalist on this issue (and @ClaremontInst alum) https://t.co/vwMndsl3br

A video posted by Peterson quickly gained steam among employees and was watched thousands of times with many reportedly reaching out to express their support.
On Tuesday, Peterson made a YouTube video “pushing back back on the narrative of modern systemic racism and white privilege.”
The video quickly hit 10,000 views within the labs and dozens of Sandia employees contacted Peterson to express support.https://t.co/vMDH2vILB7

“Within hours, Sandia executives dispatched a counterintelligence team to lock Peterson out of the network and scrub his communications from internal servers—which, via the Streisand Effect, made the video even more viral and sparked widespread unrest against Sandia executives,” Rufo wrote.
Peterson was placed on paid administrative leave as the lab’s executives began to panic over the “brewing rebellion.” A “security review board” was established in order to “evaluate whether [his] actions have comprised or posed a threat to Sandia computing and security systems.”
By the afternoon, executives were panicking about the brewing rebellion, placed Peterson on paid administrative leave, and established a “security review board” to “evaluate whether [his] actions have comprised or posed a threat to Sandia computing and security systems.”

Rufo noted that the engineer “took a stand at grave risk to his career” and maintained that he is being a voice for Sandia employees who are “scared to speak out.”
“If I get fired because of this,” he said, “the fight does not end, it only intensifies.”

“We need to completely rip [critical race theory] out of Sandia root and stem,” Peterson said. “It is cancer and we need to get it out of the labs right now.”
Rufo noted that Peterson’s action is the “first explicit rebellion against critical race theory in the federal government—and the coalition is growing.” But the lab reportedly will repress any “dissent” with severe punishment.
“Progressive employees will be rewarded; conservative employees will be purged,” Rufo wrote.
Sandia executives have made it clear: they want to force critical race theory, race-segregated trainings, and white male reeducation camps on their employees—and all dissent will be severely punished. Progressive employees will be rewarded; conservative employees will be purged.

Rufo also pointed out that while Republican U.S. Sen. Josh Hawley of Missouri and U.S. Secretary of Energy Dan Brouillette have launched an inspector general investigation, Sandia executives “have only accelerated their purge against conservatives.”
Sandia executives face a decision-point: they can back down and Peterson’s rebellion will notch an internal victory; or they can fire him and Peterson will become further evidence of Sandia’s corrupt and repressive culture. In a sense, Peterson cannot lose.

Rufo went on to note which Sandia higher-ups have “pushed the most toxic elements of critical race theory and race-segregated trainings.”
According to multiple sources, the executives who have pushed the most toxic elements of critical race theory and race-segregated trainings are James Peerey, Dori Ellis, David White (he/him), and Mark Sellers. They must be investigated by the Inspector General. pic.twitter.com/Zrhqf9aclA

“We are opening up a multi-front war against critical race theory in the federal government,” Rufo declared, calling on the Inspector General to conduct a full investigation of Sandia Labs.
We are opening up a multi-front war against critical race theory in the federal government: (1) investigative reporting to expose the truth; (2) internal rebellions to increase the pressure; (3) inspector general investigations; (4) laying the groundwork for an executive order.

“It might take time, there might be losses, but we will achieve victory,” Rufo concluded.
