More than 150 ex-staffers for ‘RINOs’ Bush, McCain, Romney sign letters in support of Biden

Just as President Trump is poised to deliver his acceptance speech at the Republican National Convention’s closing night, “alumni” representing three GOP leaders have endorsed 2020 Democratic nominee Joe Biden.

In three separate letters published this week, more than 150 ex-staffers for former President George W. Bush and former presidential candidates Sen. Mitt Romney and the late Sen. John McCain have declared their support for Biden. The move exacerbates a division in the party a few months ahead of the November election at a time when holding on to power should unite the GOP against Democrats.

“In order to emerge strong and ready to tackle the challenges before us, we must act,” a letter from Bush staffers read, according to Politico. “We must step up, get out of our comfort zone, and vote for Joe Biden. It is time for us to have initiative in our communities and networks to stand up for character, integrity, decency, and leadership.”

Over 100 former McCain staffers signed a letter that was published Wednesday in a Medium blog post.

“Working for John McCain was an honor, and his example of public service remains a lasting influence on us. His motto, ‘country first,’ and his frequent call on Americans to serve causes greater than our self-interest were not empty slogans like so much of our politics today,” the group wrote. “They were the creed by which he lived and he urged us to do the same. It is in that spirit that we are supporting his friend, Joe Biden.”

“We trust that as President, Joe Biden will lead an urgent, comprehensive national effort to contain the COVID pandemic. We trust he will call on Americans to remember our common interests and responsibilities, and not worsen the grievances that have polarized our politics. And we trust that he will defend American interests and values from all enemies, foreign and domestic,” they continued. “Joe Biden is the right decision for our country in this dangerous moment.”

A “Romney Alumni for Biden” group signed off on another letter published Thursday, accusing Trump of creating a “toxic personality cult,” and endorsing the Democratic nominee.

“With over 175,000 Americans dead from COVID-19, tens of millions unemployed, and 80 percent of voters convinced that the U.S. is heading in the wrong direction, we desperately need a president that’s laser focused on putting the nation’s needs ahead of his own,” the nearly three dozen former staffers from Romney’s 2012 presidential campaign wrote.

“That’s why we’re proud to announce that we’re voting for Vice President Biden—a man we once worked to defeat—this November,” the group added. “What unites us now is a deep conviction that four more years of a Trump presidency will morally bankrupt this country, irreparably damage our democracy, and permanently transform the Republican Party into a toxic personality cult. We can’t sit by and allow that to happen.”

Earlier this week, more than two-dozen former Republicans, including former Arizona Sen. Jeff Flake, declared their support for Biden following last week’s DNC speech by former GOP governor of Ohio, John Kasich, who urged voters to back Biden.

Though the disaffected Republicans and RINO’s (Republicans In Name Only) may hail themselves as heroes and warriors for the anti-Trump cause, their total lack of self-awareness was not appreciated on social media. Many slammed the groups for childish partisanship and others gave a sarcastic thanks for reminding voters why Trump was elected.

“Heh. Of course they do,” columnist and Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce tweeted, adding that Trump is president “in part, because we grew disgusted w the fraud of the swamp. Thanks for the reminder.”
