U.S. Senator Tim Scott and others who spoke at the Republican National Convention were accused by CNN’s Chris Cuomo of “carrying water” for President Trump.

The CNN host was slammed for his petty criticism of the president over his alleged “lies” and of those who spoke favorably of him during the first night of the RNC event. Cuomo’s attack on Scott, who closed the night with a highly-praised speech, earned him sharp rebuke for being “racist” among other things.

Cuomo’s eyebrow-raising remarks about the Democrats not needing to be fact-checked because they don’t “lie” like Trump came during his conversation with colleague Don Lemon on Monday.

“Do politicians lie? Of course. Do both parties engage in it? Yes… but not like Donald Trump,” Cuomo said. “Nobody lies the way this man does, has, and will, that I’ve ever seen in politics. So, he’s lying to you.”

“And these people are all his echo,” he continued. “I mean, one’s his son. You know, the other one is his son’s girlfriend. So, OK. But Tim Scott. You know, look, they’re carrying water for him. You know, Tim Scott was very careful about what he didn’t mention.”

Lemon agreed, mocking the South Carolina senator as the president’s “best friend” and claimed he had “all but avoided” the 2016 convention.

“You know, these people knew who Trump was. And now, they’re pretending it’s okay. It’s a tough sell,” Cuomo declared, adding outrageously that Trump is “a lying demon, who is going to hell.”

The CNN host was slammed for his unprofessional comments and notably his attack on Scott.

“That seems like a racist talking does that mean Obama is carrying Joe Biden’s water,” actor Robert Davi wondered.

Former acting Director of National Intelligence Richard Grenell, who shared the video clip of the CNN segment, also tweeted after the RNC event that “CNN is furious that the Republicans love America.”

Indeed, the moving and powerful, patriotic speeches delivered on the first night of the Republican convention were a far cry from the doom and gloom of the event put on by Democrats last week. And a highlight for many was the final speech as Scott recounted his life story, praised Trump for working to elevate the black community and, notably, torched Democratic nominee Joe Biden for his record and controversial remarks about black Americans.

Scott proudly pointed to his “faith in Jesus and faith in America,” as he spoke about his upbringing and life story.

“My parents divorced when I was 7 years old, and we moved in with my grandparents into a two-bedroom home with me, my mom, and my brother sharing a room and one bed,” Scott noted. “My mom worked 16 hours a day to keep food on the table and a roof over our heads. She knew that if we could find the opportunity, bigger things would come.”

He noted how America was “striving to be better” as he recounted his first race for the United States House in 2010.

“In an overwhelmingly white district, the voters judge me not on the color of my skin but on the content of my character,” Scott said. “We live in a world that only wants you to believe in the bad news racially, economically, and culturally polarizing news. The truth is our nation always bends back towards fairness. We are not fully where we want to be, but I thank God Almighty we are not where we used to be. We are always striving to be better. When we stumble, and we will, we pick ourselves back up and try again.”

Scott slammed Biden for his role in passing the 1994 crime bill, which he said was responsible for putting “millions of black Americans behind bars.” He also praised Trump for fixing “many of the disparities Biden created.”

“Joe Biden said if a black man didn’t vote for him, he wasn’t truly black,” Scott said.

“Joe Biden said black people are a monolithic community. It was Joe Biden who said poor kids can be just as smart as white kids. And while his words are one thing, his actions take it to a whole new level,” he added, warning that Biden and vice presidential nominee Kamala Harris “will turn our country into a socialist utopia.”

Scott spoke of his grandfather who began to pick cotton for 50 cents a day when he was just a child, leaving school in the third grade and never learned to read or write.

“Yet, he lived long enough to see his grandson become the first African American to be elected to both the United States House and the United States Senate in the history of this country,” he added. “Our family went from cotton to Congress in one lifetime.”

Fox News host Dana Perino lauded Scott as a “national treasure” during the network’s analysis of the night.

“In the first hour of this convention, they hit so many policy areas, basically more policy areas in the first hour than you saw detailed in the Democratic convention over four days,” the former White House press secretary said about Republicans’ opening night before applauding Scott’s  “powerful” closing remarks.

“His story is incredible, but also he is able to show a contrast between the Republicans and the Democrats with a smile,” she said. “And there’s something to be said for that.”

Chris Wallace, the host of “Fox News Sunday,” agreed, saying speeches by former United Nations Ambassador Nikki Haley and the South Carolina senator were “basically saying to a lot of people out there, whether they’re minorities, whether they’re suburban women, you know, there may be a stereotype to this Trump base – look again.”
