There exists a perception in the left-wing echo chamber inhabited by congressional Democrats, media figures and Hollywood celebrities that presumptive vice-presidential nominee Sen. Kamala Harris is somehow, someway a “moderate.”
But according to Jon Favreau, a full-fledged lefty who served as former President Barack Hussein Obama’s speechwriter from 2009 to 2013, this broadly bandied-about claim and perception is laughably false.
Speaking Thursday on “Pod Save America,” a left-wing podcast that features him and a couple other former Obama staffers (and is where Rep. Ilhan Omar articulated her hatred for America two years ago), Favreau said Harris is a full-fledged liberal.

“It was hilarious to me that she’s being called in all of this coverage a ‘moderate.’ Like, ‘Joe Biden has found a fellow moderate or centrist.’ She supports something extremely close to Medicare-for-all, which [Sen.] Bernie Sanders acknowledged in his statement supporting her. She’s for the Green New Deal. She has one of the most liberal records in the U.S. Senate!” he said.
“If you want to call Kamala Harris’ record in the Senate and the policies that she’s supporting now ‘centrist’ or ‘moderate,’ great!” Favreau continued. “If that’s where the Overton window has moved, then congratulations to all the progressive activists because you have f–king moved the s— out of that window! That supporting the Green New Deal and basically Medicare-for-all is now moderate and centrist! Fantastic!”
Talk about keeping it real — very real.
He wasn’t wrong. Though as he pointed out, one is apt to receive the exact opposite impression of Harris if one peruses left-wing news, Chris Wallace included.
Fox News’ Chris Wallace asserted this week that Harris is a “safe” and moderate pick who “is not far to the left, despite what Republicans are going to try to say.”

Over on CBS’s “The Late Show” meanwhile, far-left comedian Stephen Colbert claimed that both Harris and presumptive Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden are so moderate that they’re practically “Rockefeller Republicans.”
Talk about not keeping it real.

More disguising the ideology. @StephenAtHome Colbert: “When I was a kid we would have called Joe Biden and Kamala Harris ‘Rockefeller Republicans.’” @AlexWagner: “Yeah, yeah.” @mmckinnon: “Exactly right.” #LSSC @SHO_TheCircus pic.twitter.com/4feYlj9F6i

“When I was a kid, we would have called Joe Biden and Kamala Harris Rockefeller Republicans,” Colbert said in complete contradiction to the facts.
Colbert is 56, meaning he was a “kid” in the 1970s and very early 1980s. Back then, the sorts of positions currently staked out by Biden and Harris would have been considered so radical that neither candidate would have stood a chance.
Back in those days, then-Sen. Biden was nothing like the Biden of today. In fact, even Obama wasn’t a match for the radicalism of presumptive nominee Biden.
Whereas Obama rejected a public option as part of Obamacare, Biden’s now pushing for a public option for everybody and has even come out in support of providing government-funded healthcare to illegal aliens.
And whereas Obama had no qualms about deporting illegals (save for DACA recipients, of course), Biden is hellbent on offering a pathway to citizenship to all of them.
But again, if you peruse the left-wing universe, here’s what you’ll hear:
Under Trump, the GOP has become a party of white nationalists and conspiracy-mongers. The Republican Party isn’t just catering to extremists — it’s led by one.
By contrast, the Biden-Harris ticket is as mainstream & moderate as you can get. @PostOpinions https://t.co/pUWDkDMXnR

.@BrownPhDGirl on why she thinks Kamala Harris was the right VP pick: “This was just the right time for Harris because of all the events that are happening in the world, the identity and diversity that she brings. And also she’s a like-minded moderate like Biden” pic.twitter.com/gj58lJ9nBQ

Umm, Republicans? GOP? Orange 45? Stop trying to make “radical left-wing” happen. Of all the combos that could’ve been, people know Biden/Harris is as moderate as it gets. It’s not going to happen. pic.twitter.com/NlNbdo1CMh

It’s just sad watching Republicans try to paint a couple of moderate centrists like Biden and Harris as a radical socialists

Obviously, Favreau, a lefty himself, disagrees, as do a multitude of conservatives, including The Washington Post’s resident conservative, Marc A. Thiessen, who’s claimed that Biden and Kamala’s “moderate” facade is a Trojan horse.
“The left sees Biden as their Trojan horse. They want voters to look at his inoffensive, moderate, bipartisan exterior, and decide it is safe to let him inside the White House gates,” he opined in a column this week.
“But as soon as they do, an army of socialists will rush out — led by Sanders, Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) — to impose a radical progressive agenda on America.”
“They have every reason to believe that will happen, because Biden has already given in to their demands,” he added, citing the example of Biden turning against the Hyde Amendment after being chastised by Harris during a debate last year.

THESE people are moderates? It doesn’t seem like it …
