In late March, three juvenile suspects allegedly broke into immigrant Jowan Zuber’s smoke shop in Arlington, Virginia, as 33-year-old employee Hamzeh Abushariah was asleep in the back.

Awakened by the noise, Abushariah reached for his pistol, stepped out onto the sales floor and discharged his weapon, striking one of the suspects. He then fled to the back of the store, quickly dialed 911 and then returned to the front to fire more shots and scare the criminals away.

After the break-in occurred, the police arrested Abushariah, a move so brazenly shocking that Fox News host Tucker Carlson wound up inviting Zuber onto his show in early April to get the word out about what was happening.

Five months later, Zuber again appeared on Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight“, and the news was even grimmer than before.

According to Zuber, not only has Abushariah since been placed on house arrest, but the alleged “ring leader” of the burglary has been cleared of all charges — and despite there reportedly being video evidence showing the break-in.

“We went to court on July 30th and finally, we see the video. … (T)hree masked men rushed in, and he even said they all had knives, they all had weapons, they were prepared with masks, gloves,” Zuber explained Wednesday on FNC.

“And when they approach, he even screamed a warning but they decide to ignore, so when he opened the bedroom door, he missed the guy face-to-face with the mask on, all black. He admits it was pitch black. The criminal admits it was pitch black and as soon as he met face-to-face, he shoots him, closes the door.”

This prompted Carlson to say, “Good.”

Indeed, because self-defense is a right. Or is it?

According to Zuber, his employee then closed the door and called the police. As he was doing that, he heard the three burglars still “running around” in the shop, so he returned to the front and fired two more times, thus finally scaring them away.

That’s “when the officers arrived and they put [Abushariah] in jail.”

At the time of the arrest, the Arlington County Police Department issued a statement saying Abushariah had been charged with “Malicious Wounding, Reckless Handling of a Firearm and Violation of a Protective Order.” No further details were provided.

Likewise, the Commonwealth’s Attorney Office for Arlington & the City of Falls Church, Virginia issued its own statement via Twitter claiming to be in possession of “evidence we are not at liberty to share that support the charges.”

Look:

To hear Zuber tell it, this whole case is about nothing else but the prosecutors “protecting the criminal,” and the evidence suggests he’s right.

During court hearings in April, local prosecutors chose to portray the burglars as the victims, as reported by local station WJLA.

The prosecutor called the case a ‘callous disregard for human life’ because Abushariah had other options, such as hiding in the backroom and calling the police. Or running to safety out the back door,” the station reported.

Instead, the prosecutor said the defendant choose to walk into the main part of the store where the burglars were stealing cash out of the register and fire three shots– one of which hit a juvenile burglar in the lower back, ricocheting off his spine.”

Apparently, self-defense isn’t a right after all, because God forbid criminals sustain any wounds.

Continuing his remarks on FNC, Zuber expressed his shock and anger.

“It’s very sad. And I still can’t believe that he would be protected by the prosecutors. And the prosecutor’s office is very upset that I came on your show and speak the truth, and now they are looking at the whole thing a different way. They want to show us something different. I can’t believe they’re protecting the criminal,” he said.

Meanwhile, his employee “has to pay $350 out of his pocket every month for the” house arrest costs and $800 in child support, all as the “ring leader” has reportedly been let off scot-free and can allegedly be seen on Snapchat “smoking a joint celebrating that he is free.”

“This says to the community, juveniles out there, you can go rob and steal, and the prosecutor will stand next to you and defend you and put the real people who work hard, who try to live the American Dream, and put them in jail. This is very sad,” Zuber added.

He concluded his remarks by urging the prosecutors to have a heart.

“You have kids, you understand. I’m sure if the criminals broke into your house, it would be a total different thing. And we are also still struggling. We have a court-appointed lawyer, but we definitely need help out there, because this is sad for justice,” he said.

The lead attorney in Arlington County is Parisa Dehghani-Tafti, and according to records, she’s a Democrat, of course.
