NYC Mayor Bill de Blasio basically blackmailed Americans by threatening to lay off 22,000 city employees unless he gets a multi-billion-dollar, taxpayer-funded federal bailout.
De Blasio made the veiled extortion threat while dodging a question about the violent crime wave in New York City following his disastrous move to defund the police and cut $1 billion from the NYPD‘s budget.
CNN’s Wolf Blitzer said to de Blasio: “Shootings in New York City in July were up 177% over July of last year. Murders were up by nearly 59%. Burglaries up 31% over July of 2019. Are you failing? What’s going on? Are you keeping New York City residents safe right now?”
De Blasio ignored the question and shifted blame away from his inept leadership.
The wildly unpopular Democrat claimed that the recent crime wave in NYC is because of the shutdown-induced recession — and not because of massive police pullbacks in black/brown neighborhoods.
“We have the strongest police department in the whole country. But we are seeing this all over cities all over the nation,” de Blasio stammered. “It’s been a massive dislocation. People don’t have jobs. There isn’t school. There aren’t houses of worship [open]. This is what’s contributing to this massive [crime] surge that we’re all experiencing.”
For the record, the reason why houses of worship are closed is because de Blasio forced churches and synagogues to close (while praising large Muslim gatherings).
Bill also pushed for schools to remain closed in the fall, even though New York State’s Democrat governor, Andrew Cuomo, wants them to reopen.
De Blasio then threatened to lay off 22,000 city workers unless he gets billions from the federal government. Reminder: The multi-billionaire-dollar, federal bailout would come from taxpaying Americans.
“Look, we need help,” de Blasio said. “The help we need is to make sure we can keep all of our public services, whether you’re talking about safety, health, education. They’re all on the line now if we do not get federal support soon. And I’m very worried about these stimulus talks in Washington because they seem to be going nowhere fast.”
De Blasio continued: “I may have to do layoffs of 22,000 city employees from every department by October 1st if I don’t get federal help. What if that federal aid doesn’t come? And time is a-wasting.”
De Blasio walked back his anti-police rhetoric by offering vague, disingenuous praise for the New York Police Department — which he has repeatedly demonized and handcuffed during his tenure.
“The NYPD’s fighting back [to stem crime],” de Blasio said. “We put a variety of new strategies out there. We’re working much more closely with communities to help stop the violence.”
Bill de Blasio’s once-middling popularity has cratered this summer, after his catastrophic push to defund the police caused violent crimes to skyrocket across New York, especially in low-income, black neighborhoods.

As BizPac Review reported, a study of the “100 Most Dangerous Cities in the United States” shows that the most crime-infested cities are run by Democrats.
Democratic mayors preside over 16 of the top 20 cities with the highest violent crime rates, according to a report from Neighborhood Scout.
Democrats routinely take flourishing American cities and run them into the ground. They have been doing this for 50 years.
Moreover, other research confirms that states run by Democrats have the worst economies. A 2019 report entitled “Rich States, Poor States” shows that states run by Republicans have the strongest economies.
In contrast, many of the worst-performing states are run by Democrats — meaning Dems control either the governor’s office, the legislature, or both.
In 2019, eight of the top 10 state economies were run by Republicans. In contrast, 9 of the bottom 10 were run by Democrats.
