As the future of Ellen DeGeneres and her talk show hang in the balance amid accusations of a “toxic” workplace culture, the hashtag #ReplaceEllen began trending on Twitter.
The comedian actress and talk show host has come under fire after allegations surfaced of racism and workplace intimidation on “The Ellen DeGeneres Show,” with WarnerMedia reportedly launching an internal investigation. Twitter users weighed in with demands to replace DeGeneres that sparked even more controversy and debate.

As rumors flew that James Corden had been seen as the host’s successor before allegations by staff of bullying and sexual harassment behind the scenes, Twitter users added their own list of replacements, including comedian Jerry Seinfeld, actress Jennifer Garner and actor Liam Neeson.
Because James Corden has been recommended to replace Ellen DeGeneres, I made a list of people who are more capable of taking that job. Enjoy. pic.twitter.com/sJHXHGXPYd

Many Twitter users demanded that it is time for a black host for the daytime talk show.

Wanda Sykes would be great.

Michelle Obama would be fantastic!!

Some called out the idea that DeGeneres was under attack by the “Cancel Culture” because she is white.
We are not taking all white people off the air & replacing them with black people. Just stop. Reverse racism is every bit as ugly as white nationalism. Ellen’s years of compassion & leadership on #LBGTQ issues shouldn’t be forgotten. So calm the fuck down. #ReplaceEllen

The calls to replace Ellen is not about her being white, apparently it is about behind the scenes mistreatment of staff
— 🍑 Tiff_Maples (@makledes) August 3, 2020
People really out here thinking we want her out bc she’s white 🤣 nah, fam, not only does she have a superiority complex, but she has staff that have been sexually harrassing others, but go on, think what y’all want 🤦🏽♀️ Keep reaching lol 🤷🏽♀️#ReplaceEllen

There were many Twitter users who slammed the “sexist” attacks on DeGeneres, pointing to the lack of support she is getting and the double standard because she is a female.
How r we allowed 2 just #ReplaceEllen 4 being mean? Isn’t that sexiest? So if a woman is considered mean, she can just lose her job??? Really? We spent all summer bashing male comedians, & now, no support for 1 of the BIGGEST female comedian ever? #whatdidshereallydo
— Tyrell (@Coach_Tea) August 3, 2020
Not saying she’s perfect, but it’s so weird so see a woman who has dedicated her entire career to helping people be such a target because of a few anecdotes saying she’s rude.
I’m not saying she’s facing gender double standards, but I’m also not not saying it.#ReplaceEllen
— Philadelphia Eagle (@FreedomPringle) August 3, 2020
No I mean like… according 2 the media narrative, Hollywood is dominated by men, & there’s very few opportunities 4 women. Ellen has been amazing 4 so long & all of a sudden she’s just not. According 2 the narrative, women have little opportunity, & 2 lose it for this? STRANGE
— Tyrell (@Coach_Tea) August 3, 2020
It’s not double standards, it’s holding people accountable. Women don’t get a pass from criticism, that’s sexist.

Rumors were flying after The Sun claimed that Corden was under consideration as a replacement for DeGeneres, though there was no confirmation. But the news set off another wave of Twitter responses as many did not seem to like the idea at all.
Replacing Ellen with James Corden to fix a toxic work environment is like a zoo deciding to hire a marauding, in-season gorilla as their head of health and safety.

crazy how everyone on the internet hates Ellen now, but Jimmy Kimmel (blackfacer) and James Corden (also a rumored asshole) haven’t received near the amount of vitriol …… when are y’all just gonna say you’re misogynists with your chests

Studios execs using James Corden to replace the scandal ridden Ellen Degeneres as a talk show host is more of a lateral move they probably realize…

But as the #ReplaceEllen hashtag continues to trend, it seems the only thing anyone can agree on is that the debate on all sides is far from over.
i swear i refresh twitter and there’s a new hashtag, why are we replacing ellen? #ReplaceEllen

why are yall pushing for The Ellen Show to stay know knowing that the environment is not a positive place to work in? dont #ReplaceEllen CANCEL THE SHOW. if you want James Corden to have a Daytime talk show, then give his OWN show. pic.twitter.com/uWJe6A53nD

#ReplaceEllen is stupid.
When someone builds their wealth and fame through their own blood sweat and tears, you don’t take what was built to give to someone else because now you don’t like them. If she’s out, she takes @TheEllenShow with her.#KeepEllen She has helped so many.— JusLovey (@AgapeLoveAllDay) August 3, 2020
