Despite Portland Mayor Ted Wheeler having spent his whole career as mayor catering to left-wing extremists, Rose City’s extremists showed him zero love when he chose inexplicably to march among them during a “protest” Wednesday.
From the moment Wheeler entered the scene — reportedly with his security detail close by — he was hassled, with the extremists pouring broken glass in front of his path, yelling in his face, cursing him out and calling him a “f–king fascist.”

The “protest” was one of dozens, if not hundreds, that have rocked Portland ever since the death months earlier of Minneapolis black suspect George Floyd.
But whereas the “protests” (or riots, rather) in Minneapolis flamed out within about a week, they continued nonstop in Portland and have led to monuments being vandalized, federal officers being attacked with weapons, police precincts being set on fire, so-called autonomous zones being set up and random people being stomped out.
One of the most devastating attacks occurred during the July 4th holiday.
“On July 4th, Portland’s thirty-ninth consecutive night of protests, more than a thousand people assembled in front of the Justice Center and Federal Courthouse downtown,” according to the award-winning journalists at Bellingcat.
“They began launching dozens of commercial-grade fireworks into the concrete facades of both buildings, prompting a response from the police and federal agents inside both buildings. What followed resembled nothing so much as a medieval siege.”
Fed-up with the violence and insanity in Portland, last week President Donald Trump authorized federal troops to sweep into town and restore order.
But instead of siding with the president, both Wheeler and Oregon Gov. Kate Brown acted as if he and his administration were the bad guys:
This is a blatant abuse of power by President Trump. https://t.co/eSobcfVQj9

This political theater from President Trump has nothing to do with public safety. The President is failing to lead this nation. Now he is deploying federal officers to patrol the streets of Portland in a blatant abuse of power by the federal government. https://t.co/PdlZkmW0mQ

During the protest Wednesday, the mayor doubled down on this rhetoric in an attempt to appease the far-left extremists, telling them that “I’m doing everything in my power to get them [the feds] to leave.”
But his pathetic groveling seemed to do little to alleviate the overwhelming anger and hatred that the extremists appeared to have for him.

The “protest” eventually but predictably devolved into violence, with the extremists breaking through the barrier protecting the Portland federal courthouse, setting the building on fire and attacking both federal and local law enforcement officers.

Amid the melee, Wheeler reportedly wound up being tear-gassed.
Yet after witnessing all the insanity for himself, he chose again to cater to the extremists by throwing the federal authorities under the bus and falsely claiming he’d seen “nothing” that had “provoked” their tough response.
Listen:
.@tedwheeler says, “I saw nothing that provoked this response” when asked about his thoughts on federal law enforcement deploying tear gas.

“This is an egregious overreaction on the part of the federal officers. There was nothing that I saw that warranted this reaction,” he added.
It’s not clear how much more violence and destruction of federal property would have to occur for him to be convinced otherwise.
