‘Don’t act like you’re surprised’: Trump calls Wallace out over faux disbelief of what radicals are teaching our kids

Fox News host Chris Wallace expressed disbelief when confronted with the indisputable fact that American children are being taught to hate their own country.

Speaking at Mt. Rushmore earlier this month, President Donald Trump correctly pointed out that “children are taught in school to hate their own country, and to believe that the men and women who built it were not heroes, but that were villains.”

Weeks later on Fox News’ “Fox News Sunday,” Wallace brought this quote up while speaking with the president for an interview that aired this Sunday.

“You said our children are taught in school to hate our country. Where do you see that?” he asked the president in utter disbelief.

“I just look at – I look at school. I watch, I read, look at the stuff. Now they want to change — 1492, Columbus discovered America. You know, we grew up, you grew up, we all did, that’s what we learned. Now they want to make it The 1619 Project. Where did that come from? What does it represent? I don’t even know, so,” the president replied.

“It’s slavery,” Wallace dismissively responded.

Fact-check: FALSE (more on this later).

“That’s what they’re saying, but they don’t even know. They just want to make a change. Cancel culture – I hate the term, actually, but I use it,” the president continued.

“But are they teaching people don’t hate America?” Wallace pressed.

“Oh, I think so yeah, I think so. Look at the professors. Look at what’s going on in the colleges. If a conservative goes on a college – and look, we have as many as them. Excuse me, I think to the best of my knowledge, we’re sitting at the White House and the Oval Office is right behind me. We have as many as them,” Trump said.

“Who’s them?” Wallace asked as if oblivious to the obvious.

“The liberal radical left, and I’m not talking all – I think liberal, I could tell you I like a lot of liberal people. I like a lot of liberal governors and senators, but, but Chris, we have a radical left destructive ideology and it’s being taught in our schools,” the president said.

“And don’t act like you’re surprised to hear this – there are books written about it, and we can’t let that go on. We can’t let them change the true meaning of what we’re all about and that’s what they’re trying to do and I don’t want it to happen. Not on my watch. It’s not going to happen on my watch.”

Nor the watch of Secretary of State Mike Pompeo, who this week delivered a speech calling out the anti-American propaganda in The 1619 Project.

This view is shared by many respected people.

Look:

The 1619 Project is a factually inaccurate rewrite of actual American history that’s slowly being rolled out to schools across the entire country, and that was written by an avid anti-white racist and bigot who once labeled the “white race” “barbaric devils.”

And this isn’t a “right-wing” talking point. It’s a fact that’s even been noted by Reason, a 52-year-old libertarian magazine published by the Reason Foundation think tank.

“The 1619 Project—The New York Times Magazine’s much vaunted series of essays about the introduction of African slavery to the Americas—will now be taught in K-12 schools around the country,” the magazine reported this past January before listing all the historians who’ve “questioned The 1619 Project’s accuracy.”

That Wallace isn’t aware of any of this speaks to the giant bubble in which the vast majority of so-called “journalists” appear to collectively reside.

Of course, the push to teach children to hate America extends way beyond The 1619 Project, which just emerged last year. It’s been happening for years.

Part of the problem, according to Joy Pullman of the Heartland Institute, is that America’s traditional civics education has been replaced with propaganda.

In a column published in early 2017, she pointed to a National Association of Scholars report that had found that traditional civics has been replaced with a so-called “New Civics” that focuses on proselytizing children into taking up community organizing.

“That means teaching students that citizenship means looking for grievances, then agitating for bigger government to address them. It also means giving students college credit for ‘service learning’—which means paying tuition to perform unpaid work for leftist organizations such as Planned Parenthood,” she explained.
