Liberal New York Times columnist Paul Krugman set off a wave of social media mockery and outrage for an unhinged thread on and election conspiracy theory.
In a long, mind-numbing thread posted on Twitter, Krugman announced that President Donald Trump can not possibly win reelection “legitimately” and will therefore resort to trying to steal it. And while Democrats including former Vice President Joe Biden and failed 2016 Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton have been dropping commentary about Trump not accepting a loss in November, Krugman went on to theorize how it will unfold.
“And if you don’t think that can happen, you’re not paying attention,” the Nobel-prize winning economist wrote as he kicked off his Twitter rant.
Where we are now: at this point, it will be almost impossible for Trump to win reelection legitimately. It’s quite possible, however, that he will try to steal the election. And if you don’t think that can happen, you’re not paying attention 1/

Krugman claimed Trump “lost” on his handling of the coronavirus pandemic, writing that the “economic recovery has stalled as the pandemic surges,” as he offered charts and graphs to make his point.
On the legitimate election: Trump staked everything on ignoring the virus and reopening the economy. He lost. The virus is running wild, especially in the states that were Trumpiest in their policies 2/ pic.twitter.com/CBEyDjKVsj

“Even if the pandemic and the economy somehow turn around — and how is that supposed to happen? — there isn’t enough time to rescue Trump,” Krugman asserted.
Even if the pandemic and the economy somehow turn around — and how is that supposed to happen? — there isn’t enough time to rescue Trump. Oh, and the attempted October surprise — you know there will be one — will fall flat from the boy who cried “fake news” 4/

He went on to allege that “attempted theft” of the election will happen in November, telling readers to be on the lookout for the “many or all” of the ways in which that will supposedly unfold.
But attempted theft could happen in multiple ways; expect to see many or all in November 5/

“Men claiming to be federal agents, but without identification, are already making arrests,” he wrote, apparently making reference to the mysterious federal forces that have appeared amid protests in Portland, setting off speculation on social media as they made arrests and took protesters away in unmarked vehicles.
“Coming to polling places in November?” Krugman questioned, suggesting the forces House Speaker Nancy Pelosi referred to as “Trump’s stormtroopers” will descend on voters in November.

“The list goes on,” Krugman concluded in the strange thread, adding, “clearly they will if they can.”
“If you aren’t scared, you’re oblivious,” he wrote, essentially discrediting the results of the election even if Trump does come away the winner.
Broken voting machines in D-leaning precincts? Mysterious and selective rejection of millions of absentee ballots? The list goes on. Don’t say they wouldn’t; clearly they will if they can. If you aren’t scared, you’re oblivious. fin/

Krugman’s theories come on the heels of other comments being spouted about Trump supposedly not going out without a fight.
“Well, I think it is a fair point to raise as to whether or not, if he loses, he’s going to go quietly or not. And we have to be ready for that,” Clinton told “The Daily Show” host Trevor Noah this week.

Last month, Biden was sure the military would have to get involved to remove Trump from the White House.
Asked by Noah on his show in June whether he had thought about the possibility of Trump refusing to leave office, the presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee declared, “Yes, I have.”
“I promise, I am absolutely convinced they will escort him from the White House with great dispatch,” he said.

“It’s quite comical to watch the Democrat Party talk about not accepting the results of the election,” White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany told Harris Faulkner on Fox News this week, “because the only people who haven’t accepted the results of elections are people in the Democrat Party, like Hillary Clinton who’s blamed her loss on, I think it was something like two dozen different entities, never blaming herself.”
As Democrats set up the narrative now to claim a Trump victory is not legitimate, Twitter users slammed Krugman for his part on the conspiracy train.

Translation from the Krugmanese:
“We know Trump is going to kick our asses from here to Jupiter on Election Day, so we’ve got to do all we can to de-legitimize the election beforehand.”

Thanks, @paulkrugman. Now we know the Democrats’ strategies.
We reasonable folk see this all the time: Leftists accusing the Right of all sorts of malfeasance while they are the perpetrators of the things they allege.
We know what it is – it’s called PROJECTION.#Trump2020 https://t.co/ffLlYJdDAz

Actually this is great news. @paulkrugman has been wrong about everything for the last 20 years. Trump now has 100% chance of reelection.

I encourage anyone to read the comments on his tweet. I have never witnessed that level of pure delusion and insanity.

After four years of Democrats not accepting the results of an election, they issue warnings that Trump might not accept the result of the next election.
Because historically he’s been the problem. Right.

It must be challenging to be wrong about Everything. How do they do it??
