The media’s hair-on-fire reporting on a surge of coronavirus cases in Florida hit a snag of sorts when it was reported Tuesday that some laboratories have not been reporting negative test result data to the state.

“Countless labs have reported a 100% positivity rate, which means every single person tested was positive. Other labs had very high positivity rates,” FOX 35 News reported.

More from the Fox affiliate:

FOX 35 News found that testing sites like one local Centra Care reported that 83 people were tested and all tested positive. Then, NCF Diagnostics in Alachua reported 88 percent of tests were positive.

The report showed that Orlando Health had a 98 percent positivity rate. However, when FOX 35 News contacted the hospital, they confirmed errors in the report. Orlando Health’s positivity rate is only 9.4 percent, not 98 percent as in the report.

The report also showed that the Orlando Veteran’s Medical Center had a positivity rate of 76 percent. A spokesperson for the VA told FOX 35 News on Tuesday that this does not reflect their numbers and that the positivity rate for the center is actually 6 percent.

With a growing number of cases in the Sunshine State, Dr. Charles Lockwood, dean of USF’s College of Medicine, appeared on Fox News’ “The Ingraham Angle” to point out that while Florida just did 143,000 tests in one day, the FOX 35 report was “pretty disturbing.”

“That’s a lot of testing, and you’re going to have some screw-ups when you have that volume of testing going on,” Lockwood said.

With Florida being a pivotal swing state in the 2020 presidential election, the media has been breathlessly reporting on the coronavirus surge under Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis, who has been supportive of President Trump.

Amid the increase in cases, the fatality rate has been relatively low, but the media was quick to report that Florida just saw the largest single-day increase in deaths Tuesday, with 132 announced.

As for perspective, New York has had over 32,000 deaths, which is 27,600 more than the 4,400 reported in Florida. And while Gov. Andrew Cuomo is held up by the media as presidential timber, there are calls on the left for DeSantis to resign.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham asked Dr. Lockwood if Florida will be the “next New York.”

“We are not. It’s pretty clear,” he replied. “For one thing, our case fatality rate, that’s the number of deaths over the number of cases is 1.5%. New York City, right now, it’s 10%. So that’s a huge difference there.”

While acknowledging a sixfold increase in COVID-19 cases since June 10th, and a three-fold increase in hospitalizations, Lockwood added, “Day after day, week after week, we’ve had a continued drop in our case fatality rate.”

He also noted that a contributing factor to the increase has been more testing — which proves to be a double-edged sword, as the media condemns Republicans for not testing enough, them eviscerates them when more testing shows an increase in cases.

Ingraham played a clip of MSNBC medical contributor Dr. Vin Gupta downplaying the death rate as “essentially meaningless.”

“The metrics that matter in real-time are one of the hospitalization rates in places like Florida,” Gupta said.

Lockwood agreed that deaths are a lagging indicator, but added that Florida “should now be seeing a much higher case fatality rate.”

“It has been predicted that our fatality rate would go up, it’s not,” he said. “In fact, today in Tampa our case fatality rate was .9%. That’s less than 1%. So that’s the lowest, I think, in the United States. And every day I wake up, I check the numbers, and it’s been dropping.”
