ABC News was slammed with criticism over a description of a deadly incident on an interstate in Seattle over the weekend.
As reports unfolded about the arrest of the driver who drove into protesters on a closed stretch of the Seattle freeway, seriously injuring two women, ABC News chose to focus on the “luxury car” that was seen in the video of the incident.
Police arrested 27-year-old Seattle resident Dawit Kelete shortly after the incident on Saturday morning, after releasing photos of the car that was involved. Video taken by onlookers at the scene showed the car as it plowed into “multiple pedestrians” on a stretch of Interstate 5, according to Washington State Patrol spokesperson Trooper Rick Johnson.
The liberal narrative was turned on its head after it was discovered that Kelete is black and the women who were thrown into the air by the impact with the vehicle, 24-year-old Summer Taylor and 32-year-old Diaz Love, are white. Taylor later died of the injuries at the hospital.
Driver who hit freeway-blocking protesters is problematic for BLM – since he’s black! https://t.co/TUnz4jbH7B

ABC News decided that a “luxury car” was to blame for the incident.
“A young protester has died from injuries she suffered when a luxury car plowed into her and another woman during a Black Lives Matter protest Saturday on a Seattle freeway that has been shut down for days due to the civil unrest, police said,” the caption to report on Sunday read.

There was plenty of debate about why the protesters were on the dark stretch of road in the middle of the night, and other discussions about whether Kelete intentionally drove through the crowd or just didn’t see them as he apparently entered the closed interstate from the wrong way on a ramp. But the “luxury car” angle from ABC News caused a stir on social media.
To clear up any questions, when ABC or any other news source uses an out of place term like “luxury” car, it is their attempt to create further division, this time by class.

Since the driver was black – you say “luxury car”to try the class warfare angle.
You are truly disgusting and the enemy of the people. https://t.co/TSrNKmBOso

Police had earlier released photos of the car on the night of the incident but there did not seem to be any mention of the model or the implications of its “luxury” status.

Twitter users blasted ABC News for stoking division and even confusion in blaming the car.
They are really trying to make this a thing. https://t.co/G7ARn43bcc

The run-on sentence is just as bad as the baiting headline.

“Luxury car” ABC includes in the headline, to dishonestly infer a narrative of motive not supported by the facts https://t.co/LgF53VWm5a

So that people who don’t know the details will assume that the driver was white.

Was anyone driving the car, or was it just “luxury” gone wild?#ShamelessExcuseForReporting
