Monument destroyers back off after Trump posts FBI wanted poster of vandals’ photos, signs strong Executive Order

A day after Fox News host Tucker Carlson warned that President Donald Trump faces potential defeat in the upcoming 2020 presidential race unless he starts fighting back, the president donned his boxing gloves and began throwing some punches.

The first punch came around 1:00 pm, when the president posted an FBI wanted poster that depicted the photos of 15 hooligans who’re wanted for vandalizing the statue of former President Andrew Jackson that lies in D.C.’s Lafayette Park.

Look:

The president captioned the FBI wanted poster by noting that the thugs, hooligans and other degenerates pictured all face up to 10 years in prison.

Trump was just getting warmed up …

Four hours later, the president announced that he’d just signed “a very strong Executive Order protecting American Monuments, Memorials, and Statues” that’ll ensure “Long prison terms for these lawless acts against our Great Country!”

Look:

“It is the policy of the United States to prosecute to the fullest extent permitted under Federal law, and as appropriate, any person or any entity that destroys, damages, vandalizes, or desecrates a monument, memorial, or statue within the United States or otherwise vandalizes government property,” the official order reads.

“The desire of the Congress to protect Federal property is clearly reflected in section 1361 of title 18, United States Code, which authorizes a penalty of up to 10 years’ imprisonment for the willful injury of Federal property.”

Of course, a minimum (versus maximum) sentence of 10 years would have been preferred by some, but you gotta take what you can get.

The executive order also contains a scathing indictment of the mostly Democrat “State and local governments” that have willingly allowed left-wing extremists to run havoc through their cities and damage America’s historical monuments.

“In the midst of these attacks, many State and local governments appear to have lost the ability to distinguish between the lawful exercise of rights to free speech and assembly and unvarnished vandalism,” the order reads.

“They have surrendered to mob rule, imperiling community safety, allowing for the wholesale violation of our laws, and privileging the violent impulses of the mob over the rights of law-abiding citizens.”

After the president signed the order, something stunning happened. Left-wing extremists congregated in D.C.’s Lincoln Park with the intention of going after the Emancipation Memorial, according to reports:

Yet NOTHING happened. Why? Notice the timing of the first tweet: 5:17 pm, or roughly half an hour before the president announced his executive order. Is it possible the order was responsible? Perhaps. Though it’s also true that the extremists wound up encountering some resistance.

“A group of historians and reenactors — the Female Re-Enactors of Distinction, which is affiliated with the Alliance to Preserve the Civil War Defenses of Washington and the African-American Civil War Museum — had scheduled a teach-in about the history of Frederick Douglass and Abraham Lincoln at the same time,” D.C. talk station WAMU reported.

“By 7 p.m., protesters began delivering speeches. Most spoke in favor of removing the statue, and the crowd cheered for people who spoke about the importance of recognizing the agency of Black people in gaining their own freedom from slavery. But others, particularly the group of historians, objected to calls for the removal of the statue, calling instead for adding historical context or erecting other statues that would offer a counterpoint.”

Some of their words matched perfectly with what was written in the president’s executive order.

For instance, the order reads, “Key targets in the violent extremists’ campaign against our country are public monuments, memorials, and statues. Their selection of targets reveals a deep ignorance of our history, and is indicative of a desire to indiscriminately destroy anything that honors our past and to erase from the public mind any suggestion that our past may be worth honoring, cherishing, remembering, or understanding.”

Indeed.
