Fox News host Greg Gutfeld called out the media for fueling the divisive narrative behind the latest police controversies and suggested it’s time to “take the foot off the race pedal.”

The author and co-host of “The Five” contended that the liberal media needs to “stop pushing inflammatory uninformed opinions” during a monologue on the show Monday.

“There are millions of arrests made every year. The odds that a dozen or more of them will end horribly? One hundred percent,” Gutfeld said.

“And all it takes is one video to set it off. And, of course, the media that inflames it,” he added, noting that the videos are “shocking.”

“What unites them — awful visuals. What makes them different? The stories behind them,” he said, pointing to the examples of George Floyd, an unarmed black man who die after a Minneapolis police officer pressed his knee against his neck for several minutes during an arrest, and that of Tony Timpa.

Timpa, a 32-year-old Dallas man, died after an officer who had responded to his 911 call for help, pinned him to the ground, handcuffed, for nearly 14 minutes.

“The deaths of George Floyd and Tony Timpa share common traits. But they’re different races, which changes how it’s covered,” Gutfeld noted. “Should it?”

“The stats back up what I said after the Floyd killing: what you’re seeing is procedural malfeasance. Bad training. Unbending minds. And now it’s countered with an equally unbending, unlistening rage. Now steering a country toward ruin,” he added. “All it takes is another video.”

Gutfeld’s monologue followed another outbreak of protests and outrage after Rayshard Brooks died when he was shot in the back by an Atlanta police officer on Friday. The Atlanta Police Department released the 911 call that occurred before Brooks’ deadly confrontation with police and the disciplinary histories for both of the officers involved were also released.

“Here’s my prescription,” Gutfeld suggested in his monologue Monday.

“The media should get a room — and read the stats of police interactions. And note every single mistake shown in these videos — all races included,” he said. “There they might find that the culprits are bad tactics and training. The race part fades when you see how many whites are killed. And that non-white police are more likely to shoot non-white suspects.”

The Fox News host argued that it’s time to focus “on training and tactics, so real reforms can be made, so the cities can stop burning and we can stop killing each other.”

“In the wake of the Floyd turmoil, Chicago saw 18 murders in 24 hours. The most violent day in 60 years. Who do you think the victims were?” he asked.

The May 31 numbers in Chicago, which included the murder of 18-year-old students at Western Illinois University and another at DRW College Prep, were the city’s most violent day in six decades.

“So media peers — why don’t we all head to a Holiday Inn Express conference room?” Gutfeld asked, in conclusion. “And face the facts, literally. I’ll even spring for the room.”
