An explosive Fox News segment between civil rights attorney Leo Terrell and far-left political activist Cornel West left many viewers shocked on Tuesday.

Fireworks erupted on “Hannity” when the men locked horns over the move to defund police departments in many cities across the country in the wake of protests, rioting and attacks against law enforcement following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

After talk turned to the city of Chicago in particular and its former Mayor Rahm Emanuel, Fox News host Sean Hannity directed a question to Terrell.

“Why didn’t he fix the violence? Why haven’t they fixed our broken school systems? We have failed America’s children,” he said to the talk radio host.

But Terrell turned attention back on West, telling Hannity that the Harvard University philosophy professor was avoiding answering the host’s direct question and “giving you old talking points.”

“What are your talking points?” West fired back.

Terrell then directed his remarks directly to West, telling him “it’s my turn” and accusing him of “trying to conflate protesting and police misconduct,” while West continued to shout over him.

“Shame on you,” Terrell said. “You are absolutely wrong. You won’t address the issue. You refuse to address the issue.”

“Who do you think you are, my brother?” West yelled into the camera.

“I am talking to you. You are not my brother. You are not my brother. You are hurting black people who were in this position. You are taking the wrong position!” Terrell shot back.

“Are you a Christian? Are you a Christian too?” West asked. “Then check yourself, negro!”

“Oh my God! You have lost control. You are a dinosaur. You have lost it, sir. I am not part of your group,” Terrell responded.

“You disrespect me the day that Brother Floyd is put in his grave? Who do you think you are?” West shouted back, referring to George Floyd who was laid to rest in Texas on Tuesday.

Hannity attempted to intervene but could not put out the fire as the men raged against each other.

“You asked a very simple question. He won’t say he’s against defunding the police because, you know what? He’s in favor of defunding the police. I’m opposed to it and this man is a dinosaur,” Terrell said. “We have to protect our community, our black community. You know why Professor West and I are on this program? Because we have education. We have to improve education.”

West continued his ranting, however, telling the civil rights lawyer, “Don’t put words in my mouth!”

He also addressed Hannity, asking why he allowed “people on this show who can’t respect the people who come on.”

“There’s no respect there because you are just giving talking points,” Terrell interjected, setting off another wave of heated back and forth as Hannity tried to ask a question and regain control.

“You’re not a lawyer. You’re not a civil rights lawyer. I’ll match my credentials against you any day!” Terrell shouted at West, adding, “cut him off” as West insisted it was all about respect.

“Respect. You’ve got no respect for me,” Terrell said as the segment ran out of airtime.

“A little out of control, I tried,” Hannity said.

Viewers were left wide-eyed at the exchange.

“I was getting sleepy and wanting to call it a night, but I tuned into this and now I’m going to be wide awake until 4am,” NewsBusters editor Curtis Houck tweeted.

And many Twitter users praised Terrell’s handling of the argument.
