Hillary Clinton and other Democrats stepped on a pretty big rake in their efforts to create a narrative about President Trump being a coward.
The failed 2016 Democratic presidential nominee was one among many who were giddily sharing a photo of the White House with the lights out after it was reported that Trump was temporarily taken to a bunker below amid increasingly violent protests.

“Elections matter,” she wrote in a smug tweet comparing the darkened White House to a lit-up photo during the Obama administration.
The president was reportedly taken to an underground bunker amid the rioting and arson by demonstrators under the guise of protesting the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week while under police custody.

Photos of a blacked-out White House went viral on social media where even Democrat Rep. Debbie Mucarsel-Powell shared it, tweeting dramatically that it was “the night the president cowered in the dark as his country burned for justice.”

One Twitter user called the image “a powerful symbol.”

However, the narrative soon fell on its face as the Associated Press reported that it was “False.”
“The original photo was posted to a stock image site in 2015, before Trump took office,” the AP reported Monday. “An image shared thousands of times online that appears to show all the lights out in and around the White House was taken before Trump even assumed office.”

The photo was actually uploaded to Getty Images’s Stock photo website on Dec. 21, 2015.
“In the original, the lantern hanging in the White House portico is lit, along with several lights that surround the fountain in the front lawn,” the AP explained. “The edited version that is being widely shared online has been darkened, and manipulated to remove the lit lantern.”
In fact, the news outlet noted that on Sunday, the front of the White House was “illuminated by exterior lights and the portico lantern [was] turned on” as the interior remained dark.

Former Secret Service Agent Dan Bongino offered a different perspective, noting that even if the lights had been turned off at the Trump White House, “the Secret Service owns the darkness.”
