As Minneapolis protests continued over the death of George Floyd, multiple videos captured the chaotic scene as some decided the best way to react was to vandalize local stores.

Many videos were shared on social media Wednesday as a Minneapolis Target store was looted, with televisions, clothes and groceries being hauled out and no police around to stop the lawbreakers, many actually wearing face masks due to the coronavirus pandemic.

The Minneapolis Police Department was nowhere to be seen as the store’s windows were smashed and dozens of people were seen taking off with goods like electronics, vacuum cleaners, lamps and more.

Videos showed the shocking scene inside the trashed store, which is located on Lake Street not far from Minneapolis’ Precinct police headquarters, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune. Local Fox reporter Karen Scullin posted many videos, including one of the police station getting vandalized.

Empty shelves, overturned shopping carts and trash-covered floors were depicted in video footage from the interior of the gutted store which inexplicably became the target of those supposedly protesting the death of Floyd, a 46-year-old unarmed black man.

Outrage and anger have followed Floyd’s death after video showed how he pleaded multiple times that he could not breathe as a white police officer, Derek Chauvin, knelt on his neck during an arrest on Monday. The victim died and all four officers involved in the arrest were fired on Tuesday. The incident set off ongoing protests, and rioters the trashed their own city, looting and setting fires to businesses in addition to Target, like Wendy’s, Walmart and AutoZone.

“We are heartbroken by the death of George Floyd and the pain it is causing our community,” Target spokesperson Danielle Schumann said in a statement.

“We decided to close our Lake Street store earlier today and worked to ensure all of our team members were accounted for and safe. Our focus will remain on our team members’ safety and helping our community heal. Until further notice, our store will remain closed,” Schumann added.

Gov. Tim Walz called the chaotic incidents near the Lake Street area an “extremely dangerous situation.”

Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey also mentioned the area in a tweet calling for “help in keeping the peace.”

The city reportedly requested support from the National Guard on Wednesday to help deal with the rioting and looting, according to KTSP.

“If people are there to truly honor the man and his family, this isn’t how you do it and it’s so disrespectful and it’s heartbreaking,” Minneapolis Department Police Chief John Elder said. “People are utilizing this as a purpose just to make bad decisions.”
