For the first time in over two months, former Vice President Joe Biden appeared in public with wife Jill Biden in recognition of Memorial Day, laying a wreath to honor the fallen at a Delaware war memorial.

Observers may question whether the 77-year-old candidate is no worse for the wear after being locked down in his basement since March 15, as Biden seemed somewhat thinner and even frail.

The presumptive 2020 Democratic presidential nominee and his wife were wearing distinctively black face masks — Biden completed his ensemble with his signature aviator sunglasses.

Flanked by a protective detail from the Secret Service, Biden told reporters, “it feels good to be out of my house.”

As for the face mask, the media used it as an opportunity to report that President Donald Trump wasn’t wearing a mask Monday as he took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.

But Fox News senior political analyst Brit Hume summed things up well in a tweet on Biden’s decision to wear a mask, prompting a presidential retweet from Trump — which we’ll take as an endorsement.

Hume tweeted: “This might help explain why Trump doesn’t like to wear a mask in public. Biden today.”

For what it’s worth, it cannot be confirmed, as suggested by Joe “Pags” Pagliarulo, that Biden wore the mask “to stop him from saying something stupid.”

A shorter clip showing Biden and his wife getting back into their SUV prompted a lot of commentary online, as the candidate appeared to be frail. Taking small, measured steps, Biden was holding onto Jill Biden’s hand and seemed a bit off-balanced.

The response online suggested that a “feeble” looking Biden was shuffling his feet as he walked.

Here’s a sampling of responses from Twitter:
