NBC forced to admit that Georgia’s early, aggressive reopening amid pandemic was a great idea

For weeks the Leftist media has largely ignored the plight of millions of Americans struggling in the aftermath of coronavirus-related job losses to focus instead on criticizing red state governors who were clamoring to reopen their states.

The criticisms have gone something like this:

— ‘You’re going to kill people!

— ‘You’ll usher in a second wave!

— ‘Saving even one life is the most important thing!’

— ‘You care more about money than lives!’

— ‘Trump sucks!’

It’s always been a mystery as to why the media cheered for more and stricter lockdowns while literally tens of millions of Americans were losing their jobs, losing their businesses, and going weeks and months without getting adequate care for other ailments and conditions that were put on ‘hold’ due to a crush of COVID-19 patients that never materialized in most parts of the country.

There are many theories, most of them related in some way to the belief that the Left-wing media types and their Democrat masters were really cheering for an economic collapse or a monster virus death rate — or both — so they could pin them on that ‘oaf of a president’ and his party.

As such, it’s a bit surprising to see one mainstream outlet — NBC — actually reporting that a red state governor, Georgia’s Brian Kemp, has opened his state successfully so far.

“When Georgia became one of the first states to reopen back in April, many said it was too much, too soon, predicting a new surge in coronavirus cases. Now, exactly four weeks later, Blayne Alexander reports on whether Georgia’s gamble paid off,” said anchor Jose Diaz-Balart to kick off the Saturday evening segment.

The report focused initially on a barbershop owner, Tony Roberts, who told the network that when he reopened his business a month ago, he had some reservations, but now he feels “good about it.”

“Being able to go back and check with our clients and make sure, two weeks later, if they’re doing good,” Roberts said.

He was then asked by the NBC correspondent Blayne Alexander if it was “worth it to reopen financially.”

“Yes, yes, it’s worth it for me and my barbers. We all have families to support,” Roberts responded.

One of the other aspects of the coronavirus pandemic that the Leftist media has given outsized attention to is that COVID-19 appears to infect and kill black Americans more readily than others.

So it’s important to point out that Roberts is black.

The NBC report noted that when Kemp made the decision in April to allow virtually all businesses to reopen including barbershops and salons, restaurants and bars, he was mightily criticized — even by President Donald Trump.

“I told the governor simply that I disagree with his decision, but he has to do what he thinks is right,” the president said at the time.

But earlier this month, Kemp was able to announce that Georgia — the first to reopen — had the lowest number of hospitalized coronavirus patients and ventilator usage.

“Today marks the lowest number of COVID-19 positive patients currently hospitalized statewide (1,203) since hospitals began reporting this data on April 8th. Today also marks the lowest total of ventilators in use (897 with 1,945 available),” he tweeted May 9.

“Not only has the virus curve flattened in the Peach State. Data from the last 14 days show a welcome trend of declining new cases & deaths. And GA even has an answer for the crowd that demands more testing before unlocking liberty,” he added.

The drop in coronavirus cases in Georgia was also noted by NBC’s Alexander, who reported:

One month later, here’s what Georgia looks like today. These are new cases before and after the state’s reopening. Looking at a three-day average, there is no steady trend up or down. So far, no major spike in cases as some predicted. These are new hospitalizations before and after — no major changes. The same with new deaths, though the number has fluctuated.

“It’s encouraging that we’re not seeing a dramatic increase in hospitalizations  We’re not seeing ERs overwhelmed,” the network’s medical contributor, Dr. Vin Gupta, said.

Someone had to go first. Despite what the media has been reporting about ‘second waves’ and ‘all lives matter,’ it was never reasonable to insist the country remain on lockdown indefinitely or until there’s a ‘vaccine.’

Also, a growing number of experts are now saying that the lockdowns were never a good idea, to begin with — meaning the coverage of coronavirus is just the latest issue our mainstream media has weaponized for their own selfish political objectives.
