The fallout from Joe Biden’s “You ain’t black” remark on The Breakfast Club radio show continues with the co-founder of Black Entertainment Television declaring that the former vice president under Obama needs to apologize to the black community for his arrogance.
In a statement to Fox News, lifelong Democrat Robert Johnson denounced Biden’s remarks that caused the #JoeBidenIsARacist hashtag to trend all weekend on Twitter and prompted many African-Americans, including Trump supporters and even those who don’t support President Trump, to push back against the notion that Democrats own the black vote.
“Vice President Biden’s statement today represents the arrogant and out-of-touch attitude of a paternalistic white candidate who has the audacity to tell black people, the descendants of slaves, that they are not black unless they vote for him. This proves unequivocally that the Democratic nominee believes that Black people owe him their vote without question; even though, we as black people know it is exactly the opposite. He should spend the rest of his campaign apologizing to every black person he meets.”
Although The Breakfast Club is usually a soft landing spot for liberals, the host whose radio name is Charlamagne tha God subsequently insisted that the political establishment that Biden has been a longtime member needs to be overhauled.
“I see black communities all across America catching hell regardless of who is in the White House. Because we have a bunch of underlying conditions created by systemic racism that have never been fixed. The whole system needs to be dismantled and rebuilt, and he’s been a very intricate part of that system. My take away from the conversation was, I heard him talking about things that he did for black people back in the day. But you know, ‘What have you done for me lately?’ is my motto.”
Biden, who now says he doesn’t take the black vote for granted, is apparently planning another interview with the show as a form of damage control.
Last year, and obviously in the pre-COVID environment, former BET boss Johnson praised President Trump for the way he has presided over the economy, particularly insofar as it has benefited African-Americans in terms of historic low unemployment levels.
“For African Americans, the trend continues to be favorable…I give the president credit for doing positive things.”
Johnson supported Hillary Clinton in the 2016 election.
