Sen. Ted Cruz accused Joe Biden of “palling around with China” and called out the “sophisticated” corruption that has surrounded the former vice president’s foreign dealings.
The Texas Republican called out the presumptive 2020 Democratic nominee for his historically weak position on China and the effect that it has had on his foreign policy agenda during a discussion with Trump campaign communications director Tim Murtaugh.

“Remember simpler times when corruption was just $10,000 in a paper bag handed secretly under a table in a smoky bar in Washington?” Cruz said at one point in the more than 40-minute interview.
“Corruption sadly has gotten much more sophisticated in Washington,” he added. “With Joe Biden, there is just a lot of questions about his family enriching themselves in order to get policy decisions from Joe Biden.”
Cruz pointed to actions by Biden’s son, Hunter Biden who enjoyed a position on the board of a Ukrainian gas company that paid him $1 million a year even though he knew nothing about the business.
“I don’t know about you but I’ve never had a Ukrainian gas company call me up and say, ‘Hey come serve on our board of directors,'” Cruz said. “That’s kind of out there.”
He also noted how the younger Biden also leveraged his father’s name and position to negotiate a deal creating a joint investment fund between a Chinese state-run bank and his own company, Rosemont Seneca.
“They’ve gotten sophisticated in this shakedown,” Cruz said, echoing sentiments shared by President Trump on many occasions going back to last year when the focus of his impeachment hearings centered around the Ukraine and Biden’s business conduct there.

Cruz argued that the 2020 election will demand an answer to “who is best prepared to be commander in chief and to stand up to China.”
“The contrast between Joe Biden and Donald Trump on that question is staggering,” Cruz opined. “It’s not even kind of a little bit close and little differences. It is night and day,” he said.
“One of the things that drives me crazy about Democrats is they have this nasty little habit of apologizing for Communist dictators,” Cruz told Murtaugh. “They think they’re cute.”
“The Chinese Communist Party’s vision for the future is global domination,” the senator warned when asked about how Biden has defended China against Trump on the campaign trail and repeatedly dismissed contentions that its communist government is a threat.
“Unfortunately, Joe Biden isn’t even aware that a battle is waging,” the chairman of the Judiciary Committee continued.
“After decades in Washington, he has dismissed China over and over again and has allowed his family to make money off their tyranny and deception. The United States can prevail in this contest of nations so long as we have a president — like President Trump — who is willing to stand up to China and hold them accountable,” Cruz told Murtaugh.
“In what universe is Joe Biden going to be able to do stand up with strength, with fortitude, and combat China?” he asked.
