Pelosi lost me with $1200 checks for illegal immigrants, says Navarro; padded bill a non-starter

Asked Sunday morning about the widely panned coronavirus relief package pieced together by House Democrats, White House trade adviser Peter Navarro said that the bill is a non-starter.

“So, Nancy Pelosi basically lost me with that package when she has $1,200 checks for illegal immigrants. And it just goes downhill from there,” he bluntly stated while speaking with ABC News host George Stephanopoulos.

And he wasn’t wrong.

The “radical” package proposed by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her Democrat caucus contains oodles of completely unrelated socialist measures.

These measures include the following, among other things:

  • Diversity provisions for marijuana companies …
  • Tax breaks for blue-state real estate owners …
  • The removal of food stamp work requirements …
  • The repeal of voter ID laws …
  • The release of federal prisoners …
  • The release of detained illegal aliens
  • Additional protections for illegal aliens …
  • Bailout opportunities for Planned Parenthood …
  • And stimulus money for illegal aliens …

FYI, this package was pieced together without any Republican input.

And those tangentially related coronavirus measures that were included were all just as bad:

“A bunch of these Pelosi proposals have nothing to do with fighting the health crisis. They have nothing to do even with jobs,” conservative commentator Dinesh D’Souza noted last week during an appearance on FoxNews.

“They are just basically a way to introduce proposals that they’ve been trying to push for a long time but met the resistance of kind of calm reason and political good sense.”

It appears Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell agrees.

“What you’ve seen in the House is not something designed to deal with reality but designed to deal with aspirations. This is not a time for aspirational legislation, this is a time for practical response to the coronavirus pandemic,” he said in a statement.

Navarro would likely concur.

Speaking of which, he continued Sunday on ABC News by highlighting what should be the actual focus of Democrats and Republicans in Congress.

“What we have to do, George, is basically go with the fiscal and monetary stimulus that we’ve been going through. We’ve got a lot coursing through the system now. We may need more. I’m going to let others above my pay grade negotiate that,” he said.

He added that his personal focus is on “the structural adjustments we’re going to have to make.”

“For every service sector job we might lose as we adjust to this, this China virus, we’re going to have replace that with manufacturing jobs, which do have a high multiplier in terms of creating service sector jobs again,” he explained.

“So, what I’m focused on with President Trump is a buy American, deregulate, innovate agenda, which will start with bringing our pharma supply chains home, bringing our medical supplies and equipment supply chains home. So, we build it here. That will be both good economics, but also good national security.”

The goal will be to bring jobs back through innovation.

“And from there, we’re going to fan out and basically this president going back to him as a candidate promised to bring our jobs home, that’s going to be key to the future with innovation. Innovation really is going to be key,” he explained.

Innovation has been especially predominant amid the coronavirus crisis.

“The General Motors plant for ventilators went up in 17 days in Kokomo, Indiana, through innovation. They not only assembled that factory in 17 days, they took 700 components of the supply chain to make up a ventilator, use their manufacturing might to replicate that, and tool and diametrics (ph) throughout that supply chain,” Navarro explained.

“That was a miracle, George. That’s — and we can replicate that throughout this economy, repurposing our factories. This is the jobs president, the innovation president, the manufacturing president, and this is how we’re going to get through the other end of this — this crisis here.”
