Republicans are requesting that Secretary of State Mike Pompeo turn over a broad scope of unredacted Obama-Biden State Department documents relating to Hunter Biden, Burisma Holdings and its founder Mykola Zlochevsky.
As noted by investigative reporter Sara Carter, the Ukrainian gas company was at the center of the impeachment inquiry against President Trump, and Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, sent Pompeo a letter stating that recently released documents “appear to shed new light” on Democrat connections to the “notoriously corrupt” Burisma.

“I write regarding documents that the State Department recently released pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA),” wrote the ranking Republican on the House Judiciary Committee. “Although these documents are partially redacted, they appear to shed new light on the actions of State Department employees during the Obama-Biden Administration in relation to the corrupt Ukrainian energy company, Burisma Holdings, and its founder, Mykola Zlochevsky.”
Jordan noted that Burismo made “a broad effort… to bring in well-connect Democrats during a period when the company was facing investigations.” Then-Vice President Joe Biden’s son and former Secretary John Kerry’s step son, Christopher Heinz, were among these individuals.
“During the House Democrats’ partisan impeachment inquiry in late 2019, several State Department officials described how they raised concerns during the Obama-Biden Administration about Hunter Biden’s role with Burisma,” the letter added.
Hunter Biden was reportedly paid over $80,000 a month to sit on Burisma’s board.
The documents showed former U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch was briefed on Hunter Biden’s role with Burisma and alleged corruption at the company, Jordan said.
“Ambassador Yovanovitch testified during her impeachment deposition that she could not recall a briefing about issues relating to Burisma,” he then added.
Jordan also spoke of the role played by the alleged “whistleblower,” whose complaint drove the Democrat’s partisan impeachment ploy.
“In addition, according to news reports, other State Department documents show that the alleged ‘whistleblower’ who started the Democrats’ partisan impeachment inquiry also played a role in facilitating the Obama-Biden Administration’s interactions with the Ukrainian government relating to Burisma and Hunter Biden,” the lawmaker said. “These documents reportedly detail how the ‘whistleblower,’ as a National Security Council (NSC) detailee, hosted a White House meeting that took place with Ukrainian prosecutors in January 2016 regarding a concern that Hunter Biden’s role with Burisma could complicate a potential prosecution of the company’s wrongdoing.”
Jordan set a date of May 28 for the committee to receive the requested information.
The GOP lawmaker requested:
- Unredacted copies of all documents released pursuant to the Freedom of Information Act relating to Burisma Holdings, Mykola Zlochevsky, or Hunter Biden;
- All documents and communications referring or relating to Burisma Holdings or Mykola Zlochevsky for the period January 1, 2014, to January 20, 2017; and
- All documents and communications referring or relating to Hunter Biden, Christopher Heinz, or Devon Archer for the period January 1, 2014, to January 20, 2017.
House Judiciary Committee chairman Jerry Nadler, the Trump-hating Democrat from New York, was cc’d on the letter.
Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story from Twitter:
I want to see Biden’s calls to the Ukrainian President that February. I bet they have a lot of “C’mon man” and tons of extortion.

We need to see some transparency around this and what all the different agencies knew and when they knew it. #WWG1WGA #GreatAwakening #NothingCanStopWhatIsComing #JusticeIsComing #PanicInDC

#AGBarr and #Durham definitely should explore documents of alleged “whistle blower” and Hunter Biden. Its probably more of the same of which we’ve been seeing w/ cover ups by some of the same circle.
