Tucker confronts Trey Gowdy for repeatedly defending Obama’s FBI and DOJ: ‘You said point-blank, ‘it is not a witch hunt’

Former Congressman Trey Gowdy: “I made a lot of mistakes in life.”

Former Congressman Trey Gowdy stammered incoherently when pressed by Tucker Carlson about why he and other Republicans allowed the Russia hoax to continue for four years even though they knew from the beginning that it was a witch hunt.

In newly-released transcripts, former Obama FBI and DOJ officials testified under oath three years ago that they had no evidence of Trump-Russia collusion or any incriminating evidence against General Michael Flynn.

But they pushed ahead with their malicious persecutions anyway to stage a coup against President Trump.

Gowdy and other members of Congress were aware of these exculpatory transcripts three years ago, but did little to stop Robert Mueller’s scam investigation.

Carlson said: “This Russia hoax went on as long as it did because pretty much nobody in Washington tried to put the brakes on it. For all of 2017 and 2018, Republicans controlled both houses of Congress. Trey Gowdy was there.”

Tucker asked Gowdy: “This hoax was driven by the Obama administration. But it was allowed to metastasize because the Republican-controlled Congress did not stop it. Why do you think that is?”

Gowdy, an attorney, meekly replied: “My mistake was relying on the word of the [Obama] FBI and the DOJ and not insisting on the documents. If you want to fully understand what President Obama knew and what role he played, you need to read the rest of Susan Rice’s email. And hopefully it’ll be declassified one day.”

An annoyed Carlson reminded Gowdy that he had declared in July 2018 that Mueller’s bogus investigation “was not a witch hunt.”

As everyone knows by now, it was the very definition of a witch hunt. The Russia scam was a web of contrived, falsified evidence in search of a fake crime to frame on Trump loyalists.

Tucker said: “In July [2018], you said of the investigation, ‘It is not a witch hunt.’ You said point-blank, ‘It is not a witch hunt.’ But of course, it was a witch hunt. When did that dawn on you?”

Gowdy gave an incoherent response trying to defend himself, but failed. “I made a lot of mistakes in life,” he admitted.

Trey Gowdy and other Republicans have come under fire as U.S. Attorney John Durham’s investigation into the origins of the Russia hoax have uncovered a shocking web of deceit, treason, and cover-ups by the Obama FBI and DOJ to stage a coup against President Trump.

While lies from the Democrats and their media minions are not surprising, what is alarming is that Republicans stood by and did nothing to stop the Russia scam or the attempted coup of a sitting U.S. president.

Last week, Congressman Matt Gaetz blasted Trey Gowdy for claiming that the Russia hoax “was not a witch hunt” and for refusing to subpoena Democrats back in 2017 when Gowdy had the power to defend General Michael Flynn.

Congressman Gaetz said: “Unfortunately, when [Devin] Nunes, [Mark] Meadows, [Jim] Jordan and I wanted subpoena power, it was [then-House Speaker] Paul Ryan and [Oversight Committee chair] Trey Gowdy who wouldn’t give us that power.”

Gaetz added: “Democrats sent out hundreds of subpoenas when we had control and could have run this into the ground in 2017. We didn’t send out a single subpoena. Not one. And that’s a failure of our Republican leadership.”

As BizPac Review reported, former Speaker Paul Ryan blocked Republicans’ efforts to subpoena Democrats who should have been investigated. President Trump says this was because Democrats always play dirty, while weak RINOs like Ryan let the Left trample all over them.

President Trump said in 2019: “Paul Ryan wouldn’t give the right to have any subpoenas. Meadows and Jordan and all these guys — they wanted to go tougher — but they weren’t allowed to by leadership. The Left plays a tougher game. I actually think that the people on the right are tougher, but they don’t play it tougher. The left plays it ‘cuter’ and tougher. They do things that are nasty.”
