Testimony states both Hillary Clinton and then-Obama National Security Adviser Susan Rice knew of paid dossier research

New information suggests failed 2016 Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, the Democrat National Committee and the Obama administration all knowingly played a role in the production and dissemination of the since-debunked Steele dossier.

The information concerns Perkins Coie, the law firm that was hired by Clinton and the DNC in 2016 for reasons that remain in dispute.

The firm wound up hiring the opposition research firm Fusion GPS to conduct research on then-GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Fusion GPS then hired Christopher Steele, the man responsible for the smear-laden Steele dossier, to perform the actual digging.

Speaking with the press in October of 2017, however, officials from both Clinton’s campaign and the DNC denied being aware of the link from Perkins Coie — which they’d hired — to Fusion GPS and thus the Steele dossier.

And of course, the media lapped it up:

Officials from the Clinton campaign and the D.N.C. have said they were unaware that Perkins Coie facilitated the research on their behalf, even though the law firm was using their money to pay for it,” The New York Times reported in late October of 2017.

Even Mrs. Clinton found about Mr. Steele’s research only after BuzzFeed published the dossier, according to two associates who discussed the matter with her. They said that she was disappointed that the research — as well as the fact that the F.B.I. was looking into connections between Mr. Trump’s associates and Russia — was not made public before Election Day.”

Days later, Clinton’s campaign chairman, John Podesta, and former DNC Chair Debbie Wasserman Schultz repeated the same claims to the Senate Intelligence Committee.

[B]oth privately denied to congressional Russia investigators that they had any knowledge about an arrangement to pay for opposition research on President Donald Trump,” CNN confirmed at the time.

Yet transcripts of House Intelligence Committee hearings held in December of 2017 show Podesta admitting the very opposite, telling Republicans that he was aware that Fusion GPS had been paid through Perkins Coie by both his boss and the DNC.

He made the admission after Ohio Rep. Brad Wenstrup questioned the veracity of claims he’d made during the previous Senate hearing two months earlier.

“[Y]ou testified then you did not know who paid Fusion GPS?” he asked.

I don’t have a transcript in front of me,” Podesta replied. “I don’t know that that was the precise question. I think that I only learned subsequently that the payments were made [to Fusion GPS] through Perkins Coie, 50 percent from the campaign, 50 percent from the DNC. I didn’t know that at the time I was before the Senate.

So besides possibly lying to the Senate (depending on whether it’s true that he “didn’t know at the time”), Podesta also seemed to drop a bombshell — one that fits with other recent bombshells.

Two months ago, Steele himself reportedly testified to a British court that he believes Clinton had been aware of the dossier research since nearly day one.

“Steele was confronted with what lawyers said were notes he took at a meeting with the FBI in 2016 in which he purported to tell agents that Clinton was aware of his research. The lawyers read from those notes during the court proceeding,” Just The News reported last month.

“The notes, according to the transcript, read: ‘We explained that Glenn Simpson/GPS Fusion was our commissioner but the ultimate client were the leadership of the Clinton presidential campaign and that we understood the candidate herself was aware of the reporting at least, if not us.'”

Asked whether the notes were accurate, Steele replied, “Yes.”

He was then asked how it came to be that he had the opportunity to present his since-debunked findings to the Obama administration during an October 2016 meeting with then-Deputy Assistant Secretary of State Kathleen Kavalec.

In response, he suggested then-National Security Adviser Susan Rice was partly responsible.

“The former British MI6 agent turned private intelligence investigator said his meeting was set up by State officials Jonathan Winer and Victoria Nuland after longtime Clinton adviser and friend Strobe Talbott had reached out to him,” Just The News reported.

“A little bit of background, if I may, your lordship on that,” Steele said. “Both National Security Advisor at the time Susan Rice and Assistant Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who were the key policymakers on Russia, had been colleagues of Mr. Talbott. And I had, although [Winer] didn’t state it explicitly, one or either or both of them had briefed him on the work we had been doing.”

The implications of all this new information are unclear, though the conclusion appears to remain the same as it’s always been — namely that Hillary Clinton is a liar.
