The city of San Antonio, Texas, home to hard-left progressives like Julian Castro, and his twin brother, Joaquin, voted unanimously Thursday to denounce the use of terms like “Chinese virus” and “Kung Fu Virus.”

The effort to dissuade people from associating the novel coronavirus, which appears to have originated in Wuhan, China, with the Communist country is a common tactic on the left.

Prior to the vote, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, took to Twitter to call the ideological ploy by “triggered” liberals what it is: “NUTS.”

“This is NUTS,” Cruz tweeted. “SA City Council behaving like a lefty college faculty lounge, triggered by Chick-fil-A & the words ‘Wuhan virus.’ If they want to investigate someone, start with NYT & CNN who both repeatedly (and rightly) referred to it as “the Chinese coronavirus.”

Cruz was responding to a tweet from Joe “Pags” Pagliarulo, who called this “a Gestapo or Soviet move.”

A January 21 tweet from CNN shows the network calling COVID-19 the “new Chinese coronavirus” — this being before the Democratic Party issued its talking points.

Ironically, local NBC affiliate News 4 spoke of San Antonio’s resolution labeling the aforementioned terms as “hate speech” in the same breath as the city continues its fight “against the spread of COVID-19.”

As if speech control will mitigate the virus. A virus that originated in Wuhan, China.

As for Pags’ concerns, the resolution declared that San Antonio “will continue its efforts to protect residents and targets and victims of hate, and to prosecute and curb hate acts related to COVID-19 in partnership with nonprofit organizations, the Bexar County District Attorney’s Office, the San Antonio Police Department and other law enforcement partners.”

So, not only do stylists get put in jail for cutting hair in Texas, thanks to county judges, you may also find yourself being prosecuted for using the term “Kung-Fu Virus.”

To ensure there’s no mistaking that these are Democrats, the resolution encourages residents to rat on their neighbors to “help keep us all safe.”

“The City of San Antonio urges residents to join us in calling attention to these harms and denouncing hate to help keep us all safe during this unprecedented pandemic and beyond,” the resolution stated.

The resolution also denounced the “spread of misinformation related to COVID-19.” Given the city’s liberal makeup, this is likely to mean any information not reported by CNN.

Mayor Ron Nirenberg sent a letter to council members before the vote, according to News 4.

“This coronavirus has held no regard for race, religion, creed, or political boundary,” he wrote. “As such, our efforts must meet the indiscriminate nature of COVID-19 with empathy and compassion for all our neighbors. I ask that you consider adopting the attached resolution – which declares that our COVID-19 response efforts will be free of hate and discrimination – at the next Council A-Session.”

As of this writing, Bexar County, which is where San Antonio is located, has had just 1,613 confirmed cases of COVID-19, with 48 reported deaths.

Which means Democrats in the city have plenty of time to play politics.

Here’s a quick sampling of responses to the story, which suggests that folks are seeing the Democratic Party in all its glory, as a result of the “Chinese virus,” a term that quickly trended on Twitter:

Democrats, that’s why.
