A member of the U.S. Navy who serves as a personal valet to President Donald Trump has tested positive for COVID-19, reports noted Thursday.

White House staffers informed the president of the positive test on Wednesday, while health officials administered coronavirus tests to him as well as Vice President Mike Pence, both of which were negative.

The as-yet-unnamed valet reportedly began showing symptoms of the disease Wednesday morning, the Daily Caller reported.

“We were recently notified by the White House Medical Unit that a member of the United States Military, who works on the White House campus, has tested positive for Coronavirus,” Deputy White House Press Secretary Hogan Gidley said in a statement. “The President and the Vice President have since tested negative for the virus and they remain in great health.”

The president, vice president, and senior staffers at the White House are being tested for the virus on a weekly basis as it is. Pence’s office became concerned for his health in mid-March after a staffer there tested positive.

At the time, Pence and his wife, Karen, were both tested but again, those were negative.

The vice president came under fire recently, though, when he failed to wear a mask during a visit to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Pence explained at the time to the media jackals lying in wait for him that he gets tested regularly for the virus and does not have it, obviously.

“As vice president of the United States I’m tested for the coronavirus on a regular basis, and everyone who is around me is tested for the coronavirus,” Pence told reporters. “And when the CDC issued guidelines about wearing a mask, it was their recognition that people that may have the coronavirus could prevent the possibility of conveying the virus to someone else by wearing a mask.

“And since I don’t have the coronavirus, I thought it’d be a good opportunity for me to be here, to be able to speak to these researchers, these incredible health care personnel, and look them in the eye and say thank you,” he continued.

CNN reported that the White House has been using rapid Abbott Labs tests, which show results in about 15 minutes.

The network reported further that several officials who’ve been tested say it’s administered in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building, which is next door to the West Wing on White House grounds.

“A medical official swabs the staffer’s nostrils and informs them that they’ll be notified within the next several minutes if it’s positive,” CNN noted.
