Gutfeld pounds on Schiff: His ego-driven adventure in impeachment implicates him in biggest global disaster in history

In response to House Intelligence Committee chair Adam Schiff blaming the coronavirus pandemic on President Donald Trump, Fox News host Greg Gutfeld delivered a fiery rant Tuesday urging Schiff to ditch his “funhouse mirror” and take a close look into a REAL mirror.

“We have to remember those who had no skin in this game, who love to play politics and assign blame as a sport, because they were wasting our time when time was so important, which brings me to Adam Schiff,” he said on FNC’s “The Five.”

Schiff had “to create in his mind a working scenario to believe because the alternative reality, which is true, is too devastating,” Gutfeld continued. “If he might consider for a moment that his ego-driven adventure in impeachment shoved the pandemic back into a closet, which led to the surprise attack, which led to thousands of dead.”

“It implicates Schiff in one of the biggest disasters in history due to his selfishness and his stupidity. You could argue he led us to this point. That’s why he desires this funhouse mirror of reality to keep him from emotionally collapsing into a crying heap. So that’s how I feel about Adam Schiff.”

Schiff’s bizarre and fact-free “funhouse mirror of reality” was unveiled in a tweet posted hours earlier Tuesday afternoon.

“The virus didn’t magically go away as Trump promised, so he: Blames Democrats, governors, and the press. Blames his own Intelligence Community and even Dr. Fauci. And he tells us he will accept no responsibility as tens of thousands die. Trump is the President of victimhood,” the Intelligence Committee chair claimed.

Schiff, who now blames the president for the coronavirus, spent all of January and a bit of early February trying to impeach Trump over since-debunked claims that he’d tried to swing the 2020 election by forcing a foreign government to dig up dirt on his most likely competitor, Joe Biden.

Gutfeld’s point was that the president may have paid more attention to emerging reports about the coronavirus in late January had he not been distracted by Schiff’s veritable “witch hunt.” This isn’t to say the president paid no attention to the then-emerging crisis, of course, because he did.

According to multiple reports, the president was first briefed about the coronavirus on Jan 23. Within days, he instituted a travel ban on China, thus triggering Democrats into bashing him for his “xenophobia.” Before the end of the month, he also launched a task force to monitor and prevent the virus’s spread.

During the 2020 State of the Union address days later on Feb. 4, Trump spoke in more detail about the seriousness of the coronavirus threat.

“Protecting Americans’ health also means fighting infectious diseases. We are coordinating with the Chinese government and working closely together on the coronavirus outbreak in China. My administration will take all necessary steps to safeguard our citizens from this threat,” he said.

But instead of listening to a single word coming out of the president’s mouth, Democrats continued to pursue their impeachment and also perform anti-Trump stunts clearly meant to drum up applause among their base.

Schiff meanwhile remained completely quiet on the matter until late February, at which point he began spouting the debunked lie that the Trump administration had “left positions charged with managing pandemics vacant.”

The lie was based on the claim that Trump had dissolved the government’s pandemic response team. But as noted by former National Security Council official Tim Morrison in an op-ed in March, this never happened. How did he know? Because “I was there,” he explained.

“It has been alleged by multiple officials of the Obama administration, including in The Post, that the president and his then-national security adviser, John Bolton, ‘dissolved the office’ at the White House in charge of pandemic preparedness,” he wrote.

“Because I led the very directorate assigned that mission, the counterproliferation and biodefense office, for a year and then handed it off to another official who still holds the post, I know the charge is specious.”

Rather, Morrison continued, Trump simply reorganized the functions of the pandemic office under a new directorate.

Is all this to say that Schiff and his cronies really are implicated “in one of the biggest disasters in history due to his selfishness and his stupidity,” as Gutfeld had argued?

Probably not, especially since the president himself has made it clear that the blame lies solely with China. Though to hear Democrats tell it, rightly blaming China makes one a racist …

And so if the Intelligence chair and his peers want to continue playing the blame game, they should consider throwing away their “funhouse mirror of reality” and buying themselves a real mirror.
