A Texas salon owner who was fined and sentenced to seven days in jail for defying a state order to close her business has found a lot of support for her brave decision.

A GoFundMe page set up for Dallas salon owner Shelley Luther has raised over $273,000 in funds from supporters who want to help her with the $7,000 fine and other costs she has incurred after she “decided to resist tyranny” by defying county orders and opening her salon for business in order to feed her family.

The fundraising page reported Wednesday that the salon owner “is in JAIL as of yesterday” and that, in the first week of the “battle” Luther already accrued nearly $10,000 in legal fees.

“The mortgage is due, the Salon rent is due, and our hero needs us now more than ever before,” the page read.

Outrage has continued to build in Luther’s case as she was sentenced to seven days in jail and hit with a $7,000 fine.

Luther would not back down and refused to apologize to the judge who told her she was being selfish, lecturing her for “flagrantly ignoring” and “defiling” orders while telling her she could avoid the prison time if she apologized.

The business owner was served a citation last week from the city of Dallas after she reopened the doors to Salon à La Mode. She ended up tearing the paper during a speech at a rally in which she declared: “We have a right to run a business and feed our children.”

Luther had been taking customers’ temperatures and giving them masks as they came into her salon, and said she could not afford to keep her doors closed any longer as she had no other income. The GoFundMe page noted that Luther was “not charging stylists any fees to rent their stations” nor charging any of them back rent.

“Shelley and her team will likely face legal action, fines, and more during her journey back to freedom. She is doing what everyone else is only talking about, in a patriotic move to take back her liberty!” the page read.

She has also apparently received threats from the state government and the stayhomestaysafe movement.

“We get dozens of emails a day asking us to raise the goal, so the support is there,” the fundraiser, which has brought in donations from over 7,000 people in a few days, added.

“Just because salons are getting opened in a few days, this fight is long from over. They have awakened a sleeping giant and we need to fight that this may never happen again!” the page stated.

As donations continue to come in for the small business owner who was thrust into the national spotlight for trying to provide for her family, many on Twitter continued to voice their frustration and anger with the government overreach and double standard.
