AOC suggests boycott against going back to work after shutdown: Only in America is that considered ‘liberation’

Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez has called for the millions of Americans who’re currently struggling to pay their bills and feed their families amid the coronavirus lockdowns to NOT return to work once their state’s respective lockdown ends.

In an interview with Vice magazine, the young socialist congresswoman first falsely portrayed work as an antiquated idea innate to the allegedly backward United States.

“There’s a lot that we could be doing right now, but ultimately, I think when we talk about this idea of ‘reopening society,’ only in America when the president tweets about ‘liberation’ does he mean ‘go back to work,’” she said.

Wrong. “Let us work” protests have emerged throughout the world, from the United States all the way to Brazil:

She then pushed for struggling Americans to abstain from returning to work as a protest against the allegedly unfair conditions of their employment.

“When we, you know, have this discussion about going back or reopening, I think a lot of people should just say, ‘No. We’re not going back to that. We’re not going back to working 70 hour weeks just so that we can put food on the table and not even feel any semblance of security in our lives,’” she said.

According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statics, Americans worked an average of 34.4 hours per week in 2019. While a small percentage of Americans may have been forced to endure 70+ hour weeks to survive, there were likely those who welcomed the work.

In a report about 70+ hour workers written back in 2006, Harvard Business Review cited numerous workers who were “enthusiastic” about their job because of the financial and spiritual benefits they were accruing from the hours spent grinding.

“A financial analyst we’ll call Sudhir emigrated five years ago from Mumbai, India. He works at a major commercial bank in New York. Summertime, when he puts in 90 hours a week, is his ‘light’ season,'” the profile of one worker read.

“The rest of the year, he works upwards of 120 hours per week—leaving only 48 hours for sleeping, eating, entertaining, and (he smiles) bathing.”

The profile added: “Sudhir stays late in the office even when he has nothing particularly pressing to do. His get-a-life existence is a hazard of the profession—but worth it: As a 23-year-old with a first job, he is in the top 6% of earners in America.”

This love of work and the benefits it provides stands in stark contrast to the laziness and entitlement exemplified by Ocasio-Cortez and other similarly minded socialists.

Take the mindset of Carlos Maza, a far-left activist who adores AOC. In the tweets below posted late last year, he argued that work’s only purpose is to provide for basic needs, never mind the countless documented benefits of hard work.

Deceased scientific luminary Stephen Hawking would have likely disagreed with Maza’s insinuation that the purpose of life is “getting high with our friends and listening to Fleetwood Mac.”

“[N]ever give up work. Work gives you meaning and purpose and life is empty without it,” he’d said in a 2010 interview on ABC World News when asked what advice he’d give to his children.

Why then, ten years later, are Ocasio-Cortez and her acolytes preaching the very opposite message? Because the country suffers from a far more debilitating disease than the coronavirus — it suffers from entitlement, according to Armstrong Williams.

“Go to any developing nation, as I have many times, and you will see people living in abject poverty,” Williams, who’s a close friend of HUD Secretary Ben Carson, wrote in a column earlier this week.

“But the emotional and spiritual poverty you encounter in America is far worse because we are all blessed to live in a land of possibility and promise that rewards hard work and offers more opportunities for advancement than any nation on the face of the earth. And yet, so many of our neighbors squander the rich offerings placed before them, opting instead to live off of government subsidies and merely skate by in life.”

It’s a mentality perfectly epitomized by the likes of Ocasio-Cortez and Maza.

“America may be the world’s only superpower today, but how long can that be sustained when so many of our citizens drag their neighbors down and are bursting the social safety net, which was designed to provide short-term assistance as opposed to a lifetime handout?” Williams continued.

“Make no mistake about it, our country is sick — and has been long before the coronavirus arrived. Unless we are willing to take our medicine and change our lifestyle and mentality, then our collective demise is unavoidable.”

That being said, there appear to be plenty of Americans who’d absolutely love it if Ocasio-Cortez were to never return to work again:
