CBS learns nothing after busted for fake footage, replays same Italy hospital scene reporting on Philly

CBS News used fake hospital footage in a coronavirus story and followed up with an explanation for the “editing mistake” after getting caught.

But apparently the network learned nothing and amazingly used the exact same footage again after claiming it would be removing the deceptive video “from all platforms and shows.”

In a news story about New York City hospitals which aired on March 25, CBS News used footage from an Italian hospital which had already appeared in a Sky News report on March 22. The chaotic scene from a hospital in Bergamo, Italy was used by CBS News to report on conditions in New York City as Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo slammed the federal government for not giving the state enough ventilators.

Called out for the obvious deception, CBS News offered its explanation.

“It was an editing mistake. We took immediate steps to remove it from all platforms and shows,” a CBS spokesperson said in a statement.

But perhaps the production staff didn’t get that memo as the same footage was used for a second time amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“In Pennsylvania, cases are skyrocketing at the rate of 1,000 a day,” a reporter said in the segment  as the same Italian hospital footage aired. “Gov. Tom Wolf is appealing to citizens to help.”

An “editing mistake” the first time, but using the footage again to mislead viewers seemed like more of a deliberate attempt to drum up fear and convince everyone that President Donald Trump is as awful as they have been saying he is.

The criticism of the network came amid outrage over its re-post of a video featuring a sobbing ICU nurse who allegedly quit her job over the lack of masks in the coronavirus unit at a Chicago-area hospital. Only the footage was not all it seemed and CBS News was forced to try and explain its journalistic failure.

In the ongoing effort to smear the president, the establishment media continues to spread misinformation in compete disregard for the safety of Americans in the midst of a global pandemic. CNN, which has smugly refused to air Trump’s daily coronavirus press briefings, got a reckoning when a recent report was called out by the director of national intelligence for containing “inaccurate information.”

The blatant bias at the networks, and the CBS News use of the same misleading hospital footage, was slammed on social media.
