In what’s little more than an extension of ballot harvesting, the George Soros-funded Brennan Center for Justice is advocating for the use of drop boxes to collect ballots in November.
The organization is advocating for wide-scale use of mail-in ballots as part of what it calls “a comprehensive plan to protect the 2020 election from COVID-19” — when the hard left talks about protecting something, rest assured, that’s code for exploiting the targeted action.
Drop boxes are being proposed to help in the collection of mail-in ballots. California, Colorado, Oregon, and Washington already have drop boxes, but they are not always at official voting precincts.
With election day still seven months away, the left is determined to not let a national crisis go to waste, looking to exploit the coronavirus outbreak to finagle election laws in their favor, suggesting that it may be too dangerous for voters to go to the polls.
On the flip said, the option of universal vote-by-mail greatly increases the prospect of voter fraud.
The Brennan Center presented a $2 billion budget to implement its detailed plan “to ensure that the pandemic does not prevent a free and fair election.” The budget directs $82 million–$117 million for the purchase and installation of drop boxes, and another $35 million–$47 million for operation and maintenance.
Ballot tracking would get $4.2 million, to “set up a texting service for ballot tracking information, which will provide voters with reminders, confirmations of receipt, and confirmations of acceptance.”
The plan reserves millions for increased ballot printing, a public education campaign which “must include advertising in non-English languages.” It looks to bolster online voter registration, implement same-day registration and expand early voting.
The group made a sales pitch in an op-ed run by the Los Angeles Times:
For the millions of voters who will be unable or unwilling to go to a polling place this year, there needs to be a universal option of voting by mail. In states where election officials do not already have the authority to provide this option, this will require action by state legislatures or Congress or emergency orders by state executives. Voters should be given the chance to ask for mail-in ballots in myriad ways — on the phone, online, by letter. Officials should print enough ballots so that every possible voter could get one.
Security for mail-in ballots is critical, too. Secure drop boxes could be installed at government offices or other locations to avoid tampering and bolster confidence. Deadlines should be extended so that all mail-in ballots are counted. While mail voting should be available to all, in-person balloting is still the most accessible and secure option for many Americans.
As for the concept of ballot harvesting, the Heritage Foundation calls it the “tool of choice for vote thieves.”
California allows ballot harvesting, which lets anyone collect and submit absentee or mail-in voter ballots on behalf of campaigns. It helped flip seven Republican seats to Democrats in 2018, according to former GOP congressman Jason Chaffetz.
“Election security is more than Russian hackers trying to change votes,” he wrote in a 2019 Fox News editorial. “We must secure the chain of custody of ballots, validate the identity of the voter, and maintain updated voter lists.”
Outspoken conservative actor James Woods called it a “Democrat vote-fraud dream” in a recent tweet, insisting it will ensure the death of our unique democracy.
“Ballot harvesting” is a #Democrat vote-fraud dream. They got it going in 2018 in California, and they will have perfected it nationwide by this November. Our democracy is dead if it is not outlawed. #BallotHarvesting #DemocratVoterFraud
