Sean Hannity urges NY Governor Cuomo to end ban on hydroxychloroquine

Fox News host Sean Hannity urged New York’s Democrat governor Andrew Cuomo to lift his pharmacy ban on hydroxychloroquine, the anti-malaria drug that many physicians say is a potentially life-saving treatment against the Wuhan coronavirus.

Under Cuomo’s executive order, doctors cannot prescribe hydroxychloroquine outside of FDA-approved uses or state-approved clinical trials.

Hannity has interviewed numerous medical experts about the malaria drug’s efficacy against the coronavirus.

In an emotional op-ed piece on Fox News, Hannity wrote:

“Enough is enough. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo needs to IMMEDIATELY lift his pharmacy ban that is forcing New Yorkers stricken by the coronavirus into an already overburdened hospital system to get the potentially life-saving drug hydroxychloroquine.

Because of an executive order issued by the Democratic governor, any new prescriptions for hydroxychloroquine must go through the already overrun hospital system. This makes no sense.

Sources tell me that Cuomo has access to MILLIONS of doses of hydroxychloroquine right now. The federal government has tens of millions of doses and has made millions of doses available to the New York governor.

I live on Long Island and many doctors are telling me that they want to prescribe this medication to their patients who test positive for COVID-19 – the disease caused by the coronavirus – but do NOT need the patient to come to a hospital. However, Cuomo’s executive order forbids pharmacies from filling the prescriptions.”

By forcing coronavirus patients to go through hospitals before getting access to hydroxychloroquine, Cuomo is burdening hospitals and delaying treatment to sick people.

“The governor is creating a much bigger crisis in his state’s hospital system by denying New Yorkers THE CHOICE (in consultation with their doctors) to take this potentially life-saving medication.

Many doctors believe hydroxychloroquine is the best treatment option available for their patients. Why is Cuomo denying these ill New Yorkers this medication?

Release the medicine, Gov. Cuomo and let New Yorkers and their doctors decide! For some patients stricken with the coronavirus, this could be a matter of life and death.”

Hannity was reiterating a similar plea made by Dr. Mehmet Oz, a Harvard-educated cardiologist. Last week, Dr. Oz urged Gov. Cuomo to reverse his executive order.

“Many doctors are prescribing it,” Dr. Oz said. “There are centers all over the world in France and China who are researching this actively, as we are in America.”

Oz continued: “This week when the controlled study came out, I thought there’d sort of be an embrace of it. Because in 62 patients, they had statistically significant improvement with less fever, less coughing and significant improvement in pneumonia.”

In fact, some physicians say they take small doses of hydroxychloroquine to prevent themselves from getting COVID-19 amid their constant exposure to coronavirus patients.

If hydroxychloroquine were totally useless against the coronavirus, then why are hospitals hoarding it?

Sean Hannity also trashed Andrew Cuomo for his own failure to purchase ventilators back in 2015, leading to a statewide shortage during the current crisis.

“Cuomo completely ignored the specific and clear recommendations of his own health care task force to purchase 15,783 ventilators that the task force said would be needed for a pandemic such as COVID-19,” Hannity wrote.

“He bought zero ventilators. The cost to purchase the needed ventilators was only 0.4% of the 2015-2016 state budget.

Instead of buying life-saving ventilators, Cuomo wasted hundreds of millions of dollars on failed projects, like $750 million on a failed solar panel factory, $90 million on a partnership with a California light bulb company that went nowhere, and $600 million on a computer chip factory that went bust.”

Hannity continued: “Cuomo is ‘all talk no action’ because he loves to show up for photo ops at various emergency hospitals that the federal government constructed like the Javits Center and the 1,000-bed U.S. Navy hospital ship Comfort. The governor is failing the people of New York AGAIN.”
