JFK’s grandniece and her eight-year-old son are presumed dead after their canoe was spotted struggling in the choppy waters of the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland.

Maeve Kennedy Townsend McKean is the granddaughter of Robert F. Kennedy and the grandniece of John F. Kennedy Jr.

Maeve’s mother, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend, is the former lieutenant governor of Maryland.

In a statement Friday, Kathleen Kennedy Townsend said the rescue search for her daughter and grandson has now turned into a recovery effort for their dead bodies.

“With profound sadness, I share the news that the search for my beloved daughter Maeve and grandson Gideon has turned from rescue to recovery.

“My heart is crushed, yet we shall try to summon the grace of God and what strength we have to honor the hope, energy and passion that Maeve and Gideon set forth into the world. My family thanks all for the outpouring of love and prayers as we grieve and try to bear this devastating loss.”

Maeve Kennedy’s husband, David McKean, told reporters that their son Gideon was kicking a ball while playing with friends on April 2. When the ball fell into the Chesapeake Bay, his wife and Gideon got into a canoe to retrieve it.

“[They] popped into a canoe to chase it down,” David McKean said. “They just got farther out than they could handle, and couldn’t get back in.”

A witness told police that he saw a canoe struggling to return to shore in the choppy waters before it disappeared. It was very windy on Thursday afternoon (April 2), with gusts going up to 30 miles per hour.

At a press conference on Friday, Maryland Governor Larry Hogan confirmed that Maeve Kennedy and her son were sucked into the rough waters.

The tragic deaths of Maeve Kennedy and her son have been overshadowed by the media’s fixation with the coronavirus, which has caused more than 7,100 deaths in the United States.

Not surprisingly, the deaths spawned some conspiracy theories on Twitter.

One person tweeted: “Research CIA and kayak deaths, but it’s definitely not normal.”

Another person remarked: “Let us not forget that Kathleen has a big family. Her sister Kerry used to be married to Gov. Andrew Cuomo. Maeve’s aunt was Kerry, Andrew Cuomo’s ex-wife. So let’s say it like this: Maeve Kennedy Townsend, who died yesterday, used to be Andrew Cuomo’s niece.”

“The Kennedy that ‘drowned’ today, Maeve McKean, seems to have some legitimate ties to the Deep State.

  • Obama State Department, AIDS program.
  • Worked for Dianne Feinstein both in California and on Capitol Hill.
  • Tied to WHO and PAHO thru various subcommittee activity.”

The Chesapeake Today screeched in a headline: “The Kennedy Curse.”
