New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo thanks Trump for ‘moving quickly’ with corona help

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo — a Democrat who has previously clashed with President Trump — heaped praise on the President and on Vice President Mike Pence for “moving so quickly” to facilitate mobile testing for the coronavirus in his state.

“I want to thank the Vice President — and, especially the President — who facilitated this and moved quickly,” Governor Cuomo said at a press conference Friday.

Cuomo declared a state of emergency for New York State last week. While the declaration sounds alarming, it basically eases certain regulations to allow the state government to more respond quickly to an escalating public health situation.

Andrew Cuomo is the older, smarter, more-accomplished brother of CNN opinion host Chris “Fredo” Cuomo. While Fredo has been attacking Trump nonstop, Governor Cuomo said the President is doing a great job.

The Governor said the ability to conduct mobile testing for the coronavirus (including drive-through tests) will enable the state of the New York to diagnose people more quickly so they can be quarantined, and therefore limit the spread of the virus.

“The more you test, the more positives you find, the more you can isolate, and the more you reduce the spread,” Cuomo said. “You learn from the countries that have come before: China, South Korea, and Italy.

Cuomo continued: “We’ve been talking to the federal government about the federal government authorizing states to do testing. State health departments regulate labs in their states. We need obviously more testing capacity and we need it quickly. So I spoke to the Vice President about this.”

Cuomo said VP Pence’s past experience as a governor enabled him to understand that allowing the state’s health department to conduct the tests instead of waiting for the overburdened federal government to do it will expedite everything.

Cuomo said he was very happy that both Vice President Pence and President Trump were receptive to his suggestion, since that will enable New York State to test up to 6,000 people a day.

“Vice President Mike Pence is a former governor, so he understood the state’s roles, the Department of Health, and regulating laboratories. I said I thought it could make a tremendous difference.

I spoke with the Vice President today and I spoke with the President. And they are authorizing New York State to do the testing, and allowing our labs to do the tests, and allowing the State Health Department to set up the protocol. That will increase dramatically our testing capacity.

I want to thank the President and the Vice President for their receptivity to the idea. And I want to thank them for their quick turnaround. We have the authorization as of today.”

Thanks to President Trump and Vice President Pence’s quick actions, the first drive-through coronavirus testing site opened on the East Coast yesterday — in the city of New Rochelle, New York.

Governor Cuomo said New York State will be able to do rapid testing to combat the coronavirus.

“So, today the State Health Department will be going out to the 28 laboratories that the Department of Health works with on complex testing matters. And those 28 labs will be authorized to do testing.

We are down in the boiler room now, turning all the valves. The labs will be coming on.

We think next week we will go up to capacity of about 6,000 tests per day, which would be a dramatic increase for us. To date, we’ve done 3,000 tests total. So that is a very, very big difference.

So, again, I want to thank the Vice President, and especially the President, who facilitated this and moved quickly.”

While the left-wing media spends every hour of the day trying to use the coronavirus to attack President Trump, it’s refreshing to see New York’s Democrat governor actually recognize and thank President Trump and Vice President Pence for their tireless efforts to combat the virus.

While unhinged leftists trashed Trump as a racist for imposing a travel ban on Europe, even New York City’s left-wing mayor Bill de Blasio said the President did the right thing. “I think it’s necessary,” de Blasio told CNN this week.

As it is, President Trump was vindicated since the World Health Organization just declared Europe the “epicenter” of the coronavirus pandemic.

Flashback: Remember Obama’s incompetence in handling the swine flu? The Left hopes you don’t.
