FBI seizes docs in raid, Joe Biden’s brother James facing fraud allegations

When it comes to his family, it would appear that former Vice President Joe Biden is surrounded with controversy.

In addition to the reports of his son, Hunter Biden, being paid as much as $80,000 a month to sit on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company as his father headed up the U.S. effort in that country, the 2020 presidential candidate’s brother is also in the news.

The FBI raided an Americore Health hospital linked to Biden’s brother, James Biden, in late January, Politico reported. Boxes of documents were seized in the raid and the brother faces allegations he engaged in fraud and traded on Joe Biden’s name.

James Biden embarked on a health care investing foray in 2017 and 2018, according to Politico, telling Americore and other potential partners his last name could open doors and that his older brother was excited about the public policy implications of their business models.

But it was “all smoke and mirrors,” according to a former Americore Health official.

More from Politico:

Tom Pritchard, a former Americore executive familiar with the business’ finances, told POLITICO that James Biden’s arrival exacerbated Americore’s financial problems. Holding out the promise of a large investment from the Middle East based on his political connections, James Biden introduced Americore’s founder to his older brother and helped land a bridge loan to Americore from a hedge fund, Pritchard said. But then, Pritchard said, James Biden received a six-figure personal loan out of Americore’s coffers while encouraging the firm to take on greater financial liabilities. The cash infusion from the Middle East never arrived, and, Pritchard says, James Biden has not paid back the loan, the terms of which are unknown.

The six figure loan reportedly being more than a half million dollars.

The article did note that James Biden has not been accused of criminal wrongdoing and that the purpose of the Jan. 30 raid was unclear. It also stated that the Americore owner has faced legal problems and claims of mismanagement unrelated to Biden.

The company is now in bankruptcy court.

In what sounds eerily familiar to Joe Biden’s response to his son being paid millions of dollars by Burisma Holdings, his campaign said he has never discussed Americore with his brother or expressed support for the business.

Fittingly, it was reported that James Biden was sometimes a business partner with his nephew, Hunter.

Politico also reported that James Biden was sued last year by two medical services firms alleging that he cited his family’s political connections and promised that the former vice president would promote their health care model as part of his 2020 presidential campaign.

If you expect news of this nature to prompt the hair-on-fire media to camp out on Biden’s doorstep demanding answers, as Turning Point USA’s Charlie Kirk said in a tweet, you’d be sorely mistaken.
