Progressive MSNBC commentator Chris Hayes lost his mind Saturday night in an unhinged, multi-tweet rant accusing the administration of “incompetence and malevolence” and of being “sociopathic” in managing the growing coronavirus crisis.

“Trump is attempting to cover up the full scope of the outbreak in order to boost his chances for re-election, Hayes wrote. “In doing so, he is quite literally threatening public health,” he added.

The leftist network host went all wobbly and aflutter following a story released by the AP charging that the Trump administration removed from a CDC plan a recommendation that “elderly and physically fragile Americans be advised not to fly on commercial airlines because of the new coronavirus.” The AP’s source for the story was an anonymous federal official.

Katie Miller, Vice President Mike Pence’s press secretary, denied the story in a tweet, saying, “it was never a recommendation to the Task Force” and called the AP story “complete fiction.”

In ridiculous fashion, Hayes began his hysterical tirade with a claim that he wants to only communicate facts and science and not stoke panic. But in short order, he shifted into “hair on fire” mode.

“I’ve been trying very hard to use our platform to communicate the facts and science of where we are in this pandemic,” he wrote. “We do not want to stoke panic, because, again the *individual* risk remains low. Wash your hands. Have some canned food. BUT” …

“The news from Italy tonight clarifies just how enormous the systemic risk we’re facing is,” Hayes continued. “And here’s the plain truth: Our federal government has failed and we are now, because of that failure, facing an enormous impending crisis. This is Katrina-level incompetence, if not worse.”

To get into the spirit of the moment Hayes was experiencing, it’s helpful to imagine him at this point running around in circles, waving his arms around as he continues with his tweet-storm …

“Yesterday the President came out and admitted he is pressuring scientific and health experts to take steps that are worse for public health to artificially keep the numbers low. This is sociopathic governance.”

“Now we have this story that the WH overruled health officials who wanted to warn elderly and immune-compromised people not to fly. But Trump wants the economic activity because he wants to be re-elected. This is sociopathic governance.”

At this point, the pseudo-journalist parenthetically whispered that “there is absolutely no reason to believe” Katie Miller’s denial of the AP article’s premise …

“(The VP’s press office has denied the story but unfortunately, given the record of this WH, there is absolutely no reason to believe them.)”

Finally, the TDS-suffering Hayes got down to the real basis for his rant–that it’s all about politics and essentially that “orange man bad” … in fact, so bad that “a lot of people” will die. Reading between the lines, we can see him obviously pleading, “Please believe me– ‘all the facts,’ blah-blah-blah, vote Democrat.”

“All the facts we have access to suggest the following: Trump is attempting to cover up the full scope of the outbreak in order to boost his chances for re-election. HE ADMITTED AS MUCH YESTERDAY ON CAMERA. In doing so, he is quite literally threatening public health.”

“This Is incompetence and malevolence that will quite simply get a lot of people killed. I know that sounds harsh, but we have to start saying the clear and simple truth that is now evident. I hope other people in the media wake up to this.”

It’s important to note that the Centers for Disease Control updated its website on Friday advising that older people and those with serious medical conditions “stay home as much as possible” and avoid crowds. It urges those people to “take actions to reduce your risk of exposure,” and to “watch for symptoms and emergency warning signs.”

The site also advises: “Because of how air circulates and is filtered on airplanes, most viruses and other germs do not spread easily on airplanes. Although the risk of infection on an airplane is low, travelers should try to avoid contact with sick passengers and wash their hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or use a hand sanitizer that contains 60%–95% alcohol.”
