President Donald Trump took a shot at Joe Biden and the other 2020 Democratic candidates during a town hall in the former vice president’s Pennsylvania home town.

The president questioned Biden’s abilities amid a string of campaign gaffes and addressed a variety of issues during the Fox News town hall in Scranton on Thursday, delivering his responses in a conversational style that was regularly punctuated with audience applause and laughter.

With Biden as the new Democratic front-runner following his South Carolina win last week and this week’s Super Tuesday victories, Trump was asked at the town hall hosted by Fox News’ Martha MacCallum and Bret Baier if he would rather run against Biden or Sen. Bernie Sanders as the Democratic nominee.

“I’m all set for Bernie, communist,” Trump began.

“And then we have this crazy thing that happened on Tuesday, which he thought was Thursday,” he added to audience laughter, referring to Biden’s mix up of the days during a Monday campaign stop.

“But he also said 150 million people were killed with guns, and that he was running for the U.S. Senate,” Trump continued, sharing more of Biden’s gaffes. “There’s something going on there.”

The president admitted that he was surprised by Biden’s campaign resurgence and noted that it might be “tougher” to go up against Sanders because of his “base,” adding that he thinks it will be “very hard for him to come back” after being knocked out of the lead.

Trump also contended that Sen. Elizabeth Warren did Sanders no favors by dropping out of the 2020 race after Super Tuesday.

“If she’s a true Progressive, which probably she is, she should have dropped out three days ago. It would’ve been a whole different race,” he said.

“Bernie Sanders would have won five, six, seven states,” Trump added “When you look at it, she did him no favors. That was not a good friendship. We started to see that during the debates, by the way. It became unhinged.”

“She didn’t even have to endorse him, if she just dropped out of the race without an endorsement, he would’ve won a tremendous number of states that he lost, he lost states by not very much and she got enough votes that it would’ve made a big difference,” the president said. “I think he would be leading by a lot right now had she not been in the race.”

The president was asked if he thought Biden is “damaged” because of the Democrats’ impeachment proceedings against him triggered by a phone call with the president of Ukraine.

“They aimed at Trump and they took Biden down,” Trump said.

“Here’s a guy, who didn’t have a job, unfortunately sadly the military was a very sad experience for him — he goes out and gets $3 million plus $183,000 a month to be a board member of a company that a lot of people said was corrupt,” he continued. “Just as bad, China — I just made a great China deal … His son walks out a China for a billion-and-a-half dollars for a fund.”

The president covered issues from health care to the stock market and even the national debt. At the outset, he defended his administration’s response to the coronavirus outbreak.

“I think people are viewing us as doing a very good job,” Trump said in response to an audience question. “This started in China. How it started, is a question. … It’s gonna all work out. Everyone has to be calm.”

“People are now staying in the United States, spending their money in the United States, and I like that,” he added, noting an unseen silver lining. “You know, I’ve been after that for a long time. I’ve been saying, let’s stay in the U.S., spend your money here. It’s sort of enforced doing that.”

Later, Trump remarked on his dislike of shaking hands as Baier asked him about being “a self-proclaimed germaphobe.”

“In the campaign, before the campaign, you didn’t like to shake hands. You changed that,” Baier said, asking him what changed.

“I’m not thrilled,” Trump said. “If there was ever a time that you could convince people not to shake hands, this could be it.”

“You can’t be a politician and not shake hands,” he added. “The bottom line is, I shake anybody’s hand now, I’m proud of it. They’re people that I love, they’re people that I want to take care of.”
