Hillary Clinton to insert herself in election mayhem with new podcast, reportedly influenced by Howard Stern

Move aside, Rudy Giuliani, for no longer will you be the only uber-high-profile political figure to dominate the digital landscape.

On Thursday, almost a full month since the former New York City mayor launched his own podcast via YouTube, word emerged that failed 2016 Democrat presidential nominee Hillary Clinton is seeking to follow in his successful footsteps.

“Hillary Clinton is starting a podcast,” Politico confirmed. “The former first lady, secretary of State, and 2016 Democratic presidential nominee is planning to launch a new audio program in late spring, just in time for her to have a powerful new megaphone during the 2020 election.”

The stunning announcement triggered a spate of responses, the majority of them negative. Some wondered why the hell she won’t go away, while others pondered whether her decision to launch a podcast during the 2020 election counts as a form of election interference. Others meanwhile lamented the fact that the rapture hasn’t yet occurred.

Clinton would reportedly like to hire a co-host as vivacious as legendary radio personality Robin Quivers, the longtime co-host of “The Howard Stern Show.” In fact, much of her show’s style will reportedly be influenced by Stern’s program.

“Clinton had avoided Stern for decades when she was in the White House, Senate, Obama administration and as a presidential candidate,” Politico reported. “She finally agreed to appear on Stern’s show late last year during her promotional book tour.”

“It was scheduled to be an hourlong session, but Clinton quickly succumbed to Stern’s well-known skills at getting his guests to open up with a mix of flattery, empathy and emotional mirroring. Stern and Clinton ended up recording for almost 2½ hours, producing Stern’s longest interview for a non-musician in the show’s history.”

A spokesperson for Stern reportedly told Politico via an email that “we wish Hillary Clinton the very best of success in her podcast venture. She was certainly terrific during her interview with Howard Stern.”

Clinton has also reportedly been influenced by TBS late show host Conan O’Brien.

“Last fall, Clinton and her daughter Chelsea recorded an episode of Conan O’Brien’s audio show, ‘Conan O’Brien Needs a Friend,'” Politico noted. “They were promoting The Book of Gutsy Women, their co-authored collection of stories about women who have inspired them.”

“Clinton was struck by how different the hourlong conversation with O’Brien was compared with short promotional segments on TV and radio. She had already begun discussions with iHeartMedia, which also distributes O’Brien’s show, and she started to think about how the format might allow her to record deeper conversations with newsmakers that listeners could enjoy well after they aired.”

The sorts of “newsmakers” she may seek to speak with include world leaders, politicians, celebrities, authors and “perhaps famous chefs.”

She’s also considering having a “cast of characters,” including her co-host, to help loosen her up, keep the show conversational and reportedly promote “some irreverence,” according to a person close to Clinton.

But it’s not clear whether such a self-pitying, woe-is-me woman who cries foul over every mean word has what it takes to partake in irreverence.

President Donald Trump, on the other hand, is a very irreverent person, and for that, he’s been disparaged as a “sexist” and misogynist by Clinton and her allies.

All that remains unclear is whether the former presidential nominee’s podcast will be a success, or whether it’ll flop like just as badly as did her speaking tour last year with her husband, former President Bill Clinton.

Giuliani has for his part attracted nearly a million views on YouTube in the last month alone, including over 150,000 just for his first podcast:
