Future Greyhound passengers beware, because going forward, rules and laws will apparently have no place on the transportation service’s infamous buses.
In an emailed statement to the Associated Press, the 106-year-old company announced that it would no longer allow Department of Homeland Security officials to board its buses to conduct what have always been routine immigration checks.
“[T]he company said it would notify the Department of Homeland Security that it does not consent to unwarranted searches on its buses or in areas of terminals that are not open to the public — such as company offices or any areas a person needs a ticket to access,” the AP reported Saturday.
“Greyhound said it would provide its drivers and bus station employees updated training regarding the new policy, and that it would place stickers on all its buses clearly stating that it does not consent to the searches.”
The blow for DHS, the Trump administration, the nation’s laws, and the nation’s legal citizens comes a week after the AP ran a hit piece about Greyhound’s longstanding habit of allowing DHS officials to justifiably conduct immigration checks.
While Greyhound had long claimed that it had no choice in the matter and that federal law demanded it permits the checks, the AP obtained a leaked memo from U.S. Customs and Border Protection that proved otherwise.
“The memo obtained by the AP was dated Jan. 28, addressed to all chief patrol agents and signed by then-Border Patrol Chief Carla Provost just before she retired,” the left-wing outlet reported.
“It confirms the legal position that Greyhound’s critics have taken: that the Constitution’s Fourth Amendment prevents agents from boarding buses and questioning passengers without a warrant or the consent of the company.”
Following the piece’s publication, outrage erupted from the radicalized left, which in recent years has become a champion for illegal alien scofflaws, gang members, drug dealers, rapists and child molesters.
Look:
Time to hold Greyhound accountable for them helping ICE and letting them board their buses, which is against their own policyhttps://t.co/ha5ClTpjYk

Greyhound must take a firm stance — issue a public statement, add signage to buses and stations, train and empower employees, etc. — to make it abundantly clear that the company as a whole does not consent to these searches https://t.co/koGazIOL6a

.@GreyhoundBus, you can protect your customers by not allowing CBP agents to board their buses. Will you?

Greyhound: We have to let Border Agents on our buses to conduct raids. It is the law.@AP: It is not the law. Here’s the memo. Will you still allow raids on your buses?

While the backlash was fairly muted relatively speaking, the abundance of blue checkmark “Twitterati Resistance” members screeching over the AP’s report was apparently enough to spur Greyhound into bending the knee.
Plus, the company had already faced pressure from left-wing activists.
“Greyhound has faced pressure from the American Civil Liberties Union, immigrant rights activists and Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson to stop allowing sweeps on buses within 100 miles (160 kilometers) of an international border or coastline. In many cases, the buses being checked were not crossing or even approaching an international boundary,” the AP reported.
With Greyhound having bent the knee, it’s now enjoying lavish praise from the wealthy, elite blue checkmark “Twitterati Resistance”:
Private companies should not be willing partners in the Trump’s administration’s cruel immigration agenda.
This is the right decision by @GreyhoundBus. I hope others will follow. https://t.co/F8UZo5TTnj

But again the response was fairly muted, as these people represent the minority.
There’s another problem as well: Wealthy people don’t need to travel via Greyhound. They can afford conventional, if not private, flights to anywhere in the world.
The same may not be said of the overwhelming majority of working-class Americans who support the Trump administration’s policies. To them, traveling via Greyhound is an affordable option.
Correction: It used to be an affordable option.

I’ll walk first.
If you smuggle humans into the USA illegally then you need to take your business to Mexico.
Will they smuggle them across the Canadian/USA border as well.
I think not. #boycottgreyhound

Only time will tell whether the ol’ motto “get woke, go broke” will hold true for Greyhound as it has for so many other companies, but considering the declining interest and revenue that the company already faces, things don’t look good for it.
