Roger Stone sentenced to 40 months in prison, $20,000 fine as Trump drops hint of a pardon

Long-time Trump ally Roger Stone received 40 months in prison in what some are calling a “wholly political” prosecution.

As he arrived at the courtroom, a giant, inflatable Trump-styled rat greeted Stone and all onlookers, as protestors shouted.

Before the sentence even came down, President Donald Trump pinned a tweet to the top of his Twitter feed that contained a video from Fox News‘ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” in which Carlson called on Trump to pardon Stone.

Watch:

Conservatives were upset and angry to learn that the Obama-appointed judge in the case, Judge Amy Berman Jackson, has overseen many cases related to the Trump administration. This revelation even prompted the President to start asking some questions of his own

“Is this the Judge that put Paul Manafort in SOLITARY CONFINEMENT, something that not even mobster Al Capone had to endure? How did she treat Crooked Hillary Clinton? Just asking!” Trump tweeted.

BizPac Review then reported that the jury foreman Tomeka Hart’s social media was riddled with anti-Trump rhetoric. Judge Jackson refused to strike the woman as a potential juror, even at the request of Stone’s lawyers.

The sentencing recommendation for Roger Stone came under fire for being “too harsh” for process crimes stemming from an ostensibly illegitimate investigation into potential Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

“The whole thing is enough to shake your faith in our justice system, unfortunately,” said Tucker Carlson in the clip above. “President Trump could end this travesty in an instant with a pardon, and there are indications tonight that he will do that.”

Stone’s defense believes that the sentence should be reduced given their client’s age and personal history, including his love of pets.

But there are still those who believe a harsher sentence is appropriate.

Others still are simply outraged that the justice system seems to have become more and more politicized over the years.

Reporting on Fox News’ “Outnumbered” appears to indicate that a pardon may be in the works.

“At the end of the day, if he is pardoned, that vacates. One more thing, Roger Stone is requesting a new trial and judge Jackson says she’s not going to execute his sentence right away. Essentially he will walk out of here today even if he has a sentence, and she will rule on the new trial in the coming weeks if he is going to get one or not get one. He is alleging bias from a majority. So he will walk out of here, he will not be taken into custody.

It’s not clear whether Trump will pardon Stone given the sentence length.
