Rep. Lee Zeldin rips Schiff for 180-degree turn on Bolton testimony, says ‘mess he created’ is ‘on him’

Rep. Lee Zeldin is calling out Democrats on the obvious motives behind their sudden interest in hearing from former national security adviser John Bolton.

The New York Republican exposed the Democrats’ hypocrisy and their 180-degree turnaround on Bolton who could potentially be a critical witness in their impeachment effort against President Trump.

“I have no sympathy for Adam Schiff and the House impeachment managers, for Democrats on this,” Zeldin told Fox News Monday.

He recounted how a subpoena against former Deputy National Security Advisor Charles Kupperman was dropped by Democrats during the impeachment inquiry in the House of Representatives. An aide to Bolton, Kupperman was actually one of the people on the call between Trump and Ukrainian President Zelensky.

He challenged the subpoena but when it was dropped by Democrats, U.S. District Judge Richard Leon dismissed the case.

“Remember, they didn’t subpoena John Bolton in the House and when Judge Leon, the federal judge, decided to have an expedited schedule to decide on the Charles Kupperman subpoena, remember Adam Schiff responded to that by losing interest in the Kupperman subpoena, withdrawing it, and then actually submitting a motion to dismiss to Judge Leon,” Zeldin explained.

But Democrats were in “a rush to impeach the president by Christmas and they might lose in court,” so the issue was dropped, he noted.

Zeldin drove the point home while speaking to reporters, reiterating that although Schiff “was in charge of this process for months,” he never bothered to issue a subpoena for Bolton to testify.

Bolton had already indicated to congressional Democrats that he would not appear before them unless he was compelled to by subpoena. That never came as Schiff and his impeachment gang pushed through the vote. But ever since the reports that Bolton’s upcoming book may reveal that Trump did link Ukraine aid to an investigation of former Vice President Joe Biden and his son, Democrats have been twisting every which way to get Bolton’s testimony.

Sens. Tim Scott and John Barrasso echoed Zeldin’s remarks about the Democrats having plenty of opportunities to make their case.

Zeldin took to Twitter Tuesday to reiterate the point and who bears the burden for the Democrats’ decisions.
