Biden argues illegal immigrants convicted of DUI should not be arrested in pandering rant

Former vice president and current Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has a lengthy history of saying absurd things, but this takes the cake. (For now.)

During the Black and Brown Forum on January 20, Biden all but admitted that illegal aliens would be free to commit any crime they like under his presidency, so long as it’s not a felony. Oh, and he doesn’t think drunk driving should be considered a felony.

While slamming ICE using a bunch of hypothetical situations, Biden stepped in it once again and appeared to leave VICE interviewers temporarily speechless when he stated: “you only arrest for the purpose of a felony … and I don’t count drunk driving as a felony.”

According to DUI.findlaw.com, most states consider a “standard” DUI (without an accident) a misdemeanor, unless the suspect has prior convictions, and cases are determined a state by state basis.

Biden’s apparent eagerness to dismiss a potentially deadly situation in the name of political pandering didn’t sit well with many. The families of those killed by drunk drivers might have something to say about that.

In fact, Mothers Against Drunk Driving took exception to Biden’s flippant dismissal of the deadly crime.

“Drunk driving is the #1 killer on America’s roads that should be punished to the fullest extent of the law, regardless of the offender’s immigration status,” wrote the organization. “MADD supports the victims of these crashes and their wishes in all drunk driving cases.”

The internet wasn’t impressed with Biden’s characterization of the crime, and even liberals were going after him but not for the reasons one would think:

Another common theme in the comments was Biden’s past remarks regarding drunk drivers, as he claimed for years that his wife and child were killed by a drunk driver. It was only recently that a new light was shed on that situation, and it exposed Biden as a liar.

BizPac Review’s Samantha Chang reported on the story, in which the daughter of the man who accidentally killed Biden’s wife Neilla and their 13-month-old daughter brought up some mighty “inconvenient truths,” to coin a phrase.

“New Jersey resident Pamela Hamill says Joe Biden defamed her father by falsely claiming her dad was a drunk driver who had caused the 1972 car crash that killed Biden’s first wife Neilia and their 13-month-old daughter,” Chang wrote. “Hamill told the Newark Post in 2008 that her father, Curtis Dunn, was haunted by Biden’s malicious lies until the day he died in 1999.”

Dunn was a tractor-trailer driver. In December 1972, Dunn was driving his truck when the wife of then-Senator Joe Biden drove into the path of his vehicle, according to police reports.

Dunn overturned his truck while swerving to avoid a collision. Police said Dunn was the first person to render assistance to Neilia Biden after she crashed her car “possibly because her head was turned and she didn’t see the oncoming truck.”

According to the report, Biden continued to claim that his family was the victim of a drunk driver, despite the judge at the time saying that there was no evidence that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the crash. When Hamill requested that Biden stop torturing her family by repeating the lie, she claims Biden wrote her family a letter in which he said: “All that I can say is I am sorry for all of us, and please know that neither I or my sons feel any animosity whatsoever.”

Perhaps this lie is why Biden cannot empathize with those who have lost family to actual instances of drunken driving.
