House Intelligence Chairman Adam Schiff appears to have mischaracterized a text message exchange between Lev Parnas and Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani about trying to meet with the Ukrainian president.
This coming from the Democrat who “improvised fake dialogue” between President Trump and Ukraine President Zelensky during his opening remarks at House Intel hearing in September.
On the eve of the House transferring the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate, Schiff announced sudden new “impeachment evidence,” which included text messages, notes and other documents obtained from Parnas, the indicted former associate of Giuliani.
More on Schiff’s “mischaracterization” from Politico:
The issue arose when Schiff (D-Calif.) sent a letter to House Judiciary Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-N.Y.) last week summarizing a trove of evidence from Lev Parnas, an indicted former associate of Trump’s personal attorney Rudy Giuliani. In one section of the letter, Schiff claims that Parnas “continued to try to arrange a meeting with President Zelensky,” citing a specific text message exchange where Parnas tells Giuliani: “trying to get us mr Z.” The remainder of the exchange — which was attached to Schiff’s letter — was redacted.
But an unredacted version of the exchange shows that several days later, Parnas sent Giuliani a word document that appears to show notes from an interview with Mykola Zlochevsky, the founder of Burisma, followed by a text message to Giuliani that states: “mr Z answers my brother.” That suggests Parnas was referring to Zlochevsky not Zelensky.
The alleged mischaracterization suggested “sloppy oversight work at best,” according to a GOP aide interviewed for the story.
“The most charitable view of the situation is that [Rep. Schiff’s] staff committed the equivalent of Congressional malpractice by not looking more than an inch deep to determine the facts before foisting this erroneous information on his colleagues and the American public,” a senior GOP aide told Politico.
The aide continued: “But given the selective redactions and contextual clues it seems as though Chairman Schiff sought to portray an innocuous meeting with Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky as an insidious one with the President of Ukraine simply because both of their surnames start with the letter Z.”
In other words, Schiff may have just got busted for lying again, as Rep. Jim Banks, R-Ind., tweeted.

“Democrats didn’t receive the Parnas evidence from the courts until last week and were scrambling to sort through all the materials ahead of the Senate impeachment trial,” wrote Politico’s Melanie Zanona, sounding suspiciously like someone laying cover for Democrats.
Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., a late addition to the president’s Senate impeachment team, slammed Schiff in responding to the Politico story.
“Schiff’s sham impeachment is littered with mischaracterizations, falsehoods, & political desperation. The more Schiff speaks to the American people, the more the support for impeachment is obliterated in the court of public opinion,” she tweeted.

Here’s a sampling of other responses from Twitter:
Another “bombshell” turns out to be a dud. Adam Schiff ought to prove he can manage basic facts before he tries to manage an #impeachment. Kudos to @seanhannity and @politico for bringing this mischaracterization of the Parnas evidence to light. pic.twitter.com/LcWm2vryUT

The opening paragraph of this story comes pretty close to a “Republicans pounce” kind of thing.
But the real story is that Adam Schiff, once again, has apparently lied about supposed evidence.https://t.co/5BVGaTpH6M

Sleazeball Schiff busted AGAIN! This dude simply cannot tell the truth. He’s allergic to facts. Don’t trust a word out of his lying mouth. https://t.co/S6XLdX54kK

Adam Schiff falsely stated that the “Mr. Z” in a Lev Parnas text to Rudy Giuliani was referring to the Ukraine President Zelensky, when it was actually the founder of Burisma.
He is either incompetent or making crap up again. https://t.co/0nRiAw77wy

Adam Schiff falsely stated a Lev Parnas text mentioned the President of Ukraine (Zelensky) when it was really the founder of Burisma (Zlochevsky) either through incompetence, stupidity or malevolence but yeah let’s hear him lecture the Senate on “evidence” https://t.co/FQMq8H7kcv
