Senate Democrats are so desperate to trash President Trump during an election year that they’re considering allowing Republicans to call Hunter Biden — and even Joe Biden — as impeachment witnesses in exchange for testimony from ousted national security adviser John Bolton.
“A small group of Democratic senators and aides” are thinking of proposing the deal if it means they could get Bolton (who’s disgruntled after Trump said he fired him) to testify against the President.
The Washington Post reported:
“Publicly, most Democrats have scoffed at the growing GOP clamor to hear former vice president Joe Biden’s son testify, dismissing him as irrelevant to the charges against Trump and accusing Republicans of trying to distract from the allegations against the president.
But behind closed doors, a small group of Democratic senators and aides has begun to question that logic, sounding out colleagues on whether to back a witness deal that could lead to testimony from former national security adviser John Bolton or other administration officials with possible firsthand knowledge of the Ukraine controversy.
These Democrats said they believe having Hunter — or possibly Joe Biden — testify could backfire on Trump and the GOP, giving Biden and the party a platform to strike back and paint Republicans and the White House as obsessed with trying to damage one of Trump’s 2020 presidential rivals.”
Senator Christopher Coons (D-Del.) — a Biden family friend — cavalierly insisted that Joe wouldn’t be bothered if he or Hunter were called to testify.
“If you want to give Joe Biden an opportunity to sit in the well of the Senate and answer the question, ‘Do you think the president acted appropriately?’ go right ahead,” Coons sniffed. “I can’t imagine a person more comfortable in the well of the Senate than a man who spent 36 years here as a United States senator.”
However, many Democrats are secretly terrified that spotlighting Hunter’s shady Ukraine and China business deals could sink Joe’s presidential campaign. That’s why they keep shrieking that Hunter has nothing to do with the impeachment.
In reality, Hunter Biden is a material witness in the sham impeachment. So is his dad Joe. Why? Because Hunter’s dubious Ukraine dealings are at the center of the July 2019 phone call between Trump and Ukraine’s president, since Democrats used that call as the basis of their “abuse of power” impeachment article.
Joe is the establishment Democratic Party’s pick for president, as evidenced by the repeated media attacks on his rival, Senator Bernie Sanders.
In fact, dragging out the impeachment trial (by insisting on more witnesses) is a way to keep Bernie off the campaign trail in the leadup to the critical Feb. 3 Iowa caucuses.

As for John Bolton, many Republicans say there’s no point allowing him to testify since it would be a violation of executive privilege and a threat to national security.
President Trump said he’d have “no problem” with Bolton testifying, but is worried about jeopardizing national security and setting a dangerous precedent for future presidents.
“Especially a National Security Adviser — you can’t have him explaining all of your statements about national security concerning Russia, China, and North Korea – everything,” President Trump cautioned. “We just can’t do that. There are things that you can’t do from the standpoint of executive privilege.”

The Democrats’ insistence on entering more unverified, 11th-hour “evidence” into the record and calling witnesses that they didn’t bother to call during their sloppy impeachment contradicts their repeated claims that the evidence against Trump is “overwhelming.”
By insisting on more witnesses now, the Democrats are basically admitting that their impeachment in the House was rushed, weak, and a total failure.

Meanwhile, President Trump punched back at the Democrats from Davos, Switzerland, where he’s attending the 2020 World Economic Forum.
“I would love to go [to the impeachment trial],” Trump said. “Wouldn’t that be great? I’d sit right in the front row and stare in their corrupt faces.”
