Even the folks at usually pro-impeachment CNN found House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s behavior during the official impeachment signing ceremony Wednesday to be “jarring.”
Despite having spent months attempting to portray President Donald Trump’s impeachment as a “solemn” and “somber” process that’s drenched her heart in “sadness,” the House speaker and her peers seemed happier than pigs in mud at Wednesday’s ceremony.
She even handed out pens with her name emblazoned on them …

So many pens that Pelosi will sign to officially transmit the articles of impeachment and sign resolution appointing House managers. Why so many? They will be given away to members like House managers as a symbol of today. pic.twitter.com/URHGGGGp7K

“We are used to seeing signing ceremonies handing out pens at moments of celebration, when a president is signing legislation, when even sometimes, and on rare occasion but it has happened, when the House sends over a landmark piece of legislation,” CNN’s Dana Bash remarked after the ceremony’s conclusion.
“It was unusual to see that kind of ceremony and handing out the pens and smiling for a picture in this kind of situation where the House speaker has bent over backward to say publicly and privately that this is somber, this is not a time for celebration.”
CNN reporter Nia-Malika Henderson concurred.
“I thought that was a little jarring and certainly off message, because you heard Nancy Pelosi say there that in fact, this was a sad and tragic day. And there she is holding up the pen and having photographs taken with those pens,” she said.
“So yeah, I think it was a little off message for somebody who’s tried to set a serious tone — and here she is posing for photographs with a pen.”
Listen to their commentary below:
Host Wolf Blitzer noted that those who collected a pen to take home “will have the pens [with Pelosi’s name on them] for the rest of their lives.”
Sounds wonderful …
The clip concluded with CNN’s Jamie Gangel arguing that Pelosi knew what she was doing.
“In the end, they’re politicians, and in the end, Nancy Pelosi knows her caucus and that this was part of history that they would all like a piece of,” she said.
She likewise also seems to recognize that her arguably rabid caucus & base are eager to “buy” whatever she sells them, hook, line and sinker, never mind the short-sighted hypocrisy.

Thank you Nancy.. if we let him get away with what he’s done or continues to do our country will continue to be corrupt and we will never get over it. He’s not above the law and by no means can he get away with any more!!

According to House Republican Conference Chair Liz Cheney, Pelosi was by no means the only Democrat at the signing ceremony who radiated joy and pleasure.
“Just walked through aftermath of this ‘signing ceremony,’” she tweeted early Wednesday evening. “Dems were giddy with excitement in Capitol hallway, asking, ‘Did you get your pen?’ The American people will hold House Dems accountable for making a mockery of their duty to the Constitution.”

Below is a compilation of video and photo evidence showing Pelosi and other leading Democrats smiling like Cheshire cats throughout the whole ceremony:

Given the results of a poll taken last year showing that a majority of Americans believed the Democrats’ impeachment efforts were entirely political in nature, it’s not clear that openly celebrating the president’s impeachment was such a good idea.
